Finally a "cure"! I had asked for help a while back but am unable to find that post, so.... My problem was my little Chloe, we knew it was allergies...but to what! For almost 2 years she had been scratching, licking and paw-chewing to the point that she... - lived in a tee shirt to avoid raw under arm skin, from scratching. - wore socks most of the time to keep her from licking her hairless, swollen paws - had swollen 'lady parts' and licked all constantly - was basically loosing her hair all over and was one miserable pup! I had tried.. - medicated shampoos - raw diet, fish oil, grain free diet, soy only food, and a few others - steroids...HUGE mistake!! Finally my vet suggested a pill that ISN'T a steroid that he said might work...but, he said, is a bit pricie. This is NOT an ad for this drug, and I wish natural solutions had worked, but since they didn't... It is ATOPICA 10 mg (Cyclosporine), and yes, it cost $30 for 15 pills so that's $60 for a month. The paperwork with the pills says to give one pill per day for 30 days, then you can go to every-other day if effective. Within two days Chloe STOPPED licking, scratching and biting and her hair is growing back!!!!! After the initial 30 days my vet took a look at her and said she could go to every-other day and this dosage seems to be working. I know this may not work for every dog with allergies but it's worth discussing with your vet. I have my puppy back!!! |
Yay! So glad you found something that works! WTG Chloe! |
Check the pricing at petfooddirect.com. It is $49.95 for 30 pills. And free shipping. You need a prescription from your vet. Diana and Scooby |
I am very happy for Chloe and you. There are several members here who would agree that Atopica has been life changing. Enjoy your happy puppy. |
I am so happy for you & your baby! My little mini schnauzer hd bad allergies & ws on special meds for it so I can feel your pain. |
That's great!! I've heard a lot of good things about Atopica. So glad that it's working for Chloe & that you finally found a solution after so much time :) |
What a relief this is for you and Chloe! I'm so very happy for you both!! |
That's wonderful! My Cali has been on Atopia for at least 5 years and is doing great on it. I had her down to 1 a week but she had an allergic reaction to something recently so we put her back on every 2 days for awhile and now I have her on 2 times a week. It was a miracle for her as well. |
Oh I am so happy for you and to read this report I am asking my vet Monday about it. Laddy was doing better but is back to being miserable again. Thanks so much. |
We use Atopica for Marcel too - and it was a miracle after the first week. He's been on it about 3 or so years. It does get less pricey once they do the initial ramp-up...now, Marcel is on it 3x a week. SO HAPPY for you that you found something that finally works bc allergies are so frustrating! |
I am really glad you could something that helps. Sometimes the natural way can't and medicine needs to be used. |
Don't forget to check with your local Target and Walmart pharmacies. They fill vet prescriptions and may be cheaper. Also, some vets price match, so if you show yours that its cheaper on Dr. Foster and Smith, they might be able to match for you. |
That great news. =) |
