How much food? How much typically should a 10 week old yorkie be fed a day? She is getting fed Purina Puppy. She has a vet appointment soon so I will find out then but I am just curious now. I think we may be feeding her too much. :animal-pa |
I normally would suggest you keep a pup on the food they are on for a month or two after getting them but you really should get her off the Purina they are the makers of waggin train chicken jerky that killed hundreds of dogs and made many more sick and it took them years to pull it and one of the dog food is being linked to deaths as well so I would switch to something like Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Acana, or Now. Also I would free feed a puppy. |
The amount depends on the size of your pup and the amount of calories per cup of the food. Each kibble brand is different. You can find guidelines on the bag, but usually these suggestions tend to be more than is needed. When Max was 3.1 pound pup, he ate 3/4 cup a day of a 340 calories/cup food. He also had a couple of very tiny treats. |
Sorry, another post . . . When Teddy was 5.5 pounds, he ate almost 1 cup of the Purina a day. |
I offered Toki 1/4 cup food 3x a day when she was 10 weeks old. Like Kristin's Max, Toki was also around 3 pounds...sometimes she would eat all of her kibble and sometimes she wouldn't but I'd say she ate a good 3/4 cup on average at that age. |
I also believe in free feeding puppies, especially these small breed puppies. They tend to eat several small "meals" per day. Or you could say they "graze" on the food, stopping by for a few bites here and there. At least that's how mine are. |
