Please give me some info Hi I am new to the yorkietalk, my friend is a boxerworld memeber and told me about this one. I am a yorkie owned person, Lil Bear is 6 yrs old and is too much fun. She is my parent's pup though so after much looking and getting turned down from rescue agencies, I bought a little 9 wk old yorkie-poo. Well I have had Moose from a week and I was checking her out before heading to bed tonight and I found a off white worm inching in the fur near her butt.... I pulled it off with a paper towel and tossed it. I haven't see any in her poop, but have had what looks like small rice pieces that were on my sheets and pillow case. It's been so long since lil bear was a pup I can't remember if she had the same thing happen. I know pup's can get worms passed from mom. Should I be getting her into the vet tomorrow or just keep an eye on her. When I got her the breeder gave me the health cert. and the fecal float was neg. |
Read over the health gaurantee you got from your breeder and make sure something like that is covered in it. Call your vet and make an appointment for tomorrow to see what is up. Sounds like worms to me. If it is in fact worms (or something else), contact your breeder after the vet's visit and let her know what's up. If it's something that is gauranteed in the health gaurantee, she should reimburse you for the vet cost. Hope everything works out and your little one is OK! :) |
Rice sounds like tapeworms. They get it from eating a flea. Milo had it and we took him to the vet, one shot and they were gone. He said they're not very dangerous, round worms are the one to be concerned about( You can't see them as easily) . Bring in a fecal sample to make sure. |
tapes Tapes do not show up in a stool check. They laid their eggs outside the body, not in the intestinal tract..so you have to actually see them or their dried up segments..tell the vet you saw tapes or save one when you find it..gross I know. |
Moose and her worms Went to the vet this morning and they gave me Dromtel (sp) to give to moose and like lil bear she hates meds, but I finally got her to swallow it. The vet says is was tapeworms probably from ingesting fleas and the meds should help and gave me a tube of advantage, which I did not know could be applied at a younger age than the other flea meds, lil bear is a Frontline user so I don't know much about the others. Now if only moose can get over the gas  I guess from the pill and we will be happy campers....well that and lil bear and moose getting along. :) Thanks |
