Luxating Patella I have an 11 week old Yorkie. I got her from a bad breeder. I knew the lady and how she breeds her animals. The thing is, I was contacted by her and she wanted me to just take the puppy because she couldn't be "sold". I wasn't really sure what was wrong at the time or how severe it was, but I knew the puppy would be put down if I didn't take her home. I found out very soon that she had a Luxating Patella. Which is a locking or sliding knee. This didn't really seem like that big of a deal at first, but now she seems to be in pain and wont walk on it. I am hoping that I won't have to surrender her to a rescue because I love her sooo much. I just want to find help in getting her medical care. I can pay some, I just can't pay all of it. From what the vet is saying, it can be very costly. I just don't know what to do. PLEASE....any advice would be greatly appreciated! |
Well what did the vet say about her knee? Did he suggest surgery? |
An orthopedic surgeon is the best person to talk surgery with but its not cheap at all and I donno if they suggest doing it that young or not. For one knee surgery is around $3,000. |
Been to the vet He said it is a severe case that will require surgery. I am taking him again tomorrow to see how he has progressed in the past 2 weeks. I think it has gotten worse since she has began limping. |
Oh NO! Quote:
Holy Cow!!! $3000 is alot! I am so afraid of having to give her up. :( |

I don't know how many ortho surgeons you have in your area, but I don't think most regular vets do luxating patella surgery. I know that our vet said we'd have to have a surgeon do it. He told us the surgeon he works with charges around $2000 per leg. Good luck. I hope you can save this poor little puppy! |
