Teeth... Well, I was hoping this wouldn't happen, Jasper has 2 rows of teeth!! :( I can only see the very front top and bottom. He won't let me look past that. I saw 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom. I have never had a dog to do this. I had never even heard of it until I became a member here. He will be 6 months tomorrow. I haven't scheduled his neuter appt. yet. Why does this happen? Is it a toy breed thing? Also, he hasn't eaten as much as usual for about 3 days. He will put a piece of kibble in his mouth and either just swallow it whole or hold it in his mouth for a few seconds before chewing it. So, I started adding a small amount of warm water to soften it and adding very shredded chicken. He eats. But its still not like he usually does. Do/did you guys have this problem with yours cutting teeth or 2 sets of teeth? |
don't worry , this is completely normal.. it is very common for yorkies to retain puppy teeth.. they are usually removed at time of neuter.. speak to your Vet about it. :) |
Thanks, Wanda! :) I called and made his neuter appointment for August 1. The vet said he will remove any milk teeth that need to come out. Poor Jasper!! :( |
Tibbe had shark mouth too. Had to have many of his puppy teeth removed. I know it's pretty common with Yorkies, probably is with other toy breeds. |
Oh yes. It is common. Galen was a little piranha. He was 8 months and had 17 teeth pulled. There was 2 rows. Shark week came early |
Frozen strips of knotted fleece were my girls favorite chewing aid. Cools off the gums and keeps them clean for less irritation. Ziva had 7 removed at spay. Abby only two, - we were a bit more agressive with pulling and tugging toys in play. |
At 5 1/2 months, Bella is blessed with losing her baby teeth hand over fist. She's lost at least one canine--good girl! She's gumming her food more than she used to, but she's still eating her dry Blue Buffalo kibbles and has a healthy appetite. It will be interesting to see how many teeth they have to pull when she is spayed at 7 or 8 months... |
I called today and made Jasper's appointment for his neuter and teeth for August 1. I hope he loses a lot of his baby teeth between now and then. We would be happy to let Galen continue to hold the record for most teeth pulled. :p |
Huey didn't have to have any pulled... he left teeth all over the house! I don't remember my lab doing that many years ago. The vet said his upper incisors in front of the canines are both still baby teeth, that he never grew in adult teeth there. I am unsure if this is true or if they are just smaller than normal incisors. |
Same here, Winston had two rows of teeth removed at his neuter. He did just fine, never really noticed him not eating... |
Hmmm....maybe I should try a new food then. He has been on Science Diet Small Bites since his 1st vet check. The question is which one? Time to research some more and the timing stinks because I fly out Saturday. Grrr |
