Clump of dirt on skin? I was cleaning Joels face and noticed a bump on the side of his snout by his whiskers, so after I moved all the hair I saw what looked like a clump of dirt on the base of a whisker. It felt really hard so after gently working it off he was fine, there's a tiny bald spot around the whisker where it was. Now I remember we took Rosco in a couple months ago for what looked to be the same thing. I don't remember exactly what they said it was, something about a follicle. She just pulled it off and didn't worry about it and he also had a little bald spot from it and it's back to normal now. So I'm not that worried but just wondering if anyone had that happen and knew what it was:) |
I believe that the clump is matted oils, skin cells, and waxes that are surrounding an infected hair follicle. It's part of the body's defense mechanism. What you are describing reminds me of what would happen when I got a mosquito bite on my scalp as a child--I would get this clump of protective material that the body produces that would pull off after the mosquito bite healed, and everything would return to normal. |
