Over eating? Sorry about this question but I have to ask......can a yorkie over-eat? I mean to the point of a tummy so distended and uncomfortable! Tatiana will gorge herself. It is like she can't ever get enough to eat. |
Yes, some dogs do not self regulate, and some will eat to the point of making themselves sick. My Max would happily eat until he is sick. Overeating can cause loose stools or constipation. |

Is she feeling better now? I think the biggest concern would be what kind of food she was finding on the ground. Pancreatis is always on my mind because it can be deadly. :( Max had a bad bout of constipation/gas once when he was a pup. It was a very scary night, and looking back, I probably should have taken him to the ER. He couldn't sit still, and the only thing he wanted to do was go walking. I gave him a warm body wash and canned pumpkin -- but I would not give pumpkin if Tatiana was eating table foods that she found on the ground. Teddy also had a bad case of gas once that we took him to the ER for. I was scared he had a back injury. Out of nowhere, he had difficulty moving and was yelping. When we arrived at the ER, the doctors were in surgery, so we went outside to wait. Teddy pooped and was fine, so we went home. |

dog I measure out my Yorkies food in the am. JoJo gets a cup of food and Spud gets 3/4 cup. That way Spud who can look like a blimp will not overeat. I give them some in the am, then for lunch a little and the rest at dinner. Their tummies are so small that it is better to spread out their eating times. |

Momo is a widdle piggie...he'll eat until he throws up & he'll try to steal everyone else's (dog) food.:rolleyes: You can split her meals into 3 small meals, that way she won't overeat & have a distended stomach. |

I would hold try holding back on the bananas, which can be heavy, and the green beans and apple which can cause gas/pain. Stick to kibble for treats. The only other thing I can suggest is strict supervision/limited freedom/redirecting when she is looking for food/training to "leave it" to prevent her from eating things she shouldn't. As you know, my Max stole Teddy's breakfast when I wasn't looking. He was happy to have a second breakfast. Ugh! |

As a point of reference, my yorkie was a few ounces more than yours at 6 months old and she was getting about 3/4 cup a day of kibble and wet food and training treats throughout the day back then and up until she was about 1.5 years and she did well on it and did not get fat. (I don't feed kibble anymore, but I know the estimates on the bags are just a starting point and you should adjust if needed). |

Very few puppies are truly overweight. It is generally best to let them eat extra as long as they aren't making themselves sick. How about 1/8 to 1/4 cup 3x/day? Each dog is so different and some foods are not calrically dense. Wondering though - did she have two clean fecals after she was dewormed as a young pup? |
Geez Jess would eat till she dropped if I let her. I give her 1/4 to a 1/3 cup kibble twice a day and have cut back the treats to some romaine lettuce, chicken and blue buffalo treats and watermelon (not all together). When I give her too much I see the remnants on the floor later (ugh) When I got her she was barely 5lbs at 1 year old. She is now 6.2 lbs and the vet said no more (he thought she was underweight before) I have to throw her food around the room or play guess which hand or she will gobble the royal canin kibble whole, which then returns in a bloated goopy mess.... |

Ian would eat a whole bag of kibble, if I let him! I give him a half cup of kibble per day, and divide it into thirds. I add fresh veggies: carrots, sweet potatoes, and string beans to his lunch kibble. He has lost a pound so far, and has one pound to go! If I do give treats, it's always the fresh, raw veggies. Another thing to consider when determining how much food to feed is activity level. Active dogs require more. Your pupsters seem very active. Or Tatiana could be like Teddy and have a high metabolism. Teddy is a pound lighter than my Max, but they eat the same amount. |

He also loves playing w/his ball & makes fun & new exciting ways to entertain himself, all the while engaging us. Mimi gets a kick out of observing him, she tends to pack on the pounds bc all she does is lay there until I take her out. I have a hard time keeping Momo's weight in check, if he loses a couple of ounces, I'll feed him a little more. I weigh them on a baby scale every month. As a pup, just like people, their metabolism is high...so jealous! |

As you and others mentioned, puppies definitely need the extra calories, but some continue to need more even as adults. I didn't decrease my boys' food at 1 - 1.5 years as usually recommended. They burn it off (although dad was increasing to nearly a cup a day for awhile and that caused a bit of a problem :p). |
So, I increased her food and she still wants to eat everything in site. I also cut back on the green beans & banana. I think these were giving her semi-loose poops. She has such a sensitive tummy. While we were rushing around and getting ready for a camping trip, she got a little stressed out! She had some very soft poops and some spots of blood. I had to run her to the vet before we went camping. They put her on an anti -inflammatory and a dose of medicine to stop the loose BM's. They called it Stress Colitis. It looks like I have a problem child! :( |

FYI, if blood in poop keeps reoccurring, it can be whipworms, not colitis. It's a little harder to detect in fecal tests, so it should be ruled out & /or treated. |

Since green beans are a good source of fiber, it is ok to give her a few of these and it won't cause loose stools. Is just a little banana, ok for her to have. She goes nuts when I peel the banana! |
All but Roxy will overeat. She is the only one you stops when she is full. The rest keep right on eating. |
