Unpasteurized Goat Milk? I know this subject was brought up before but I didn't really see any response I was looking for. So I thought I'd ask to see if there was anyone with any feedback/knowledge about this. I was speaking with a friend who brought up unpasteurized goat milk for dogs. He has BIG dogs and he's done his research to keep them in top shape. These are adult dogs he's feeling the milk to. He briefly explained the benefits of unpasteurized goat milk. My question is, do any of you feed your yorkies goat milk? With them having such sensitive tummies... I thought you shouldn't feed adult dogs any type of milk? If it's THAT good for them, I'll be asking my friend to hook me up with some as he says he has connection with a local farmer(?). |
I dont see a problem with goats milk but i wouldnt give unpasterized. I would be concerned about bacteria |
I don't know much about goats milk but Teeka's breeder has goats and gives goat milk to her puppies when they first start eating food. She soaks their kibble in it and makes a mush. She also recommended it when I took Teeka home, if she wouldn't eat. That is about the extent of my knowledge of goats milk. I think hers was unpasteurized, too. |
I saw a documentary on unpasteurized milk & it helped get rid of severe allergies in humans...but it's illegal in some states to sell it & they get raided by the government. It's legal in CA to sell 'whole' milk. You can get it from local farmers too. I just recently got the Pro Bloom from The Honest Kitchen, it's goat's milk w/probiotics. The boys got the runs, but the girls were ok. I'm not sure if I gave them too much the 1st time, but I don't think it would hurt to try. Give a tiny teaspoon 1st & work up & see how they do. |

I give my babies goats milk, canned, diluted with distilled water 1 part water to 2 part goat milk....when they are transitioning from momma to solid food....they have all seemed to love lapping up the milk and then taking their nap....helps get them away from momma, although they do use momma as a "pacifier" at nap time and bed time. |
When I had goats I gave the milk to the Yorkies and barn cats. They loved it. Especially a squirt fresh from Izzy. A couple of thoughts - In Georgia it is illegal to sell raw, unpasteurized milk for human consumption, but can sell it for animal consumption. Many people purchase this milk for their own consumption and/or butter making. An easy way to get around the agricultural laws. I would be very cautious about giving raw milk to my furkids. I would have to be absolutely comfortable that the goat herd was healthy and kept clean and the humans milking the goats were "clean" and took special care as far as cleanliness when milking and handling the milk. |

Goats milk has been found to be one of the most digestible forms of milk out there. I don't use it. I find milk to be an unneeded item in most adult dog's diets but I don't think feeding unpasteurized goats milk would do any harm to the dogs and if the dogs have some sort of digestive problem it may be helpful. My kids were raised on unpasteurized whole milk. We got it weekly from a local small farm. The milk was always handled properly and we never had a problem with it. People drank unpasteurized milk for thousands of years. Pasteurization did not become necessary until large populations had to have milk and the handling of it was not being done properly. |
