Why??? (Another Poopie question)
 
My vet doesn't know the anser to this question......

Why is it if you have two dogs, and they eat the same food, eat the same treats and drink the same water but when they poopie, one doesn't have much of an odor and the other one has a "strong" odor.? No matter what food I have feed, it is always the same result.

Well, I am no expert, but I think it is because every dogs system is different and the food reacts differently. It might be the one with the odors has a sensitivity to something in the food!

Probably the odor is from the amount of bacteria in the GI tract and poop of the one with the smelliest.

Individual body chemistry.

Haven't you ever had a friend use a perfume that smells divine, so you buy it for yourself, and it just doesn't smell the same on you as it does on your friend?

I agree with the answers above. My boys are full brothers and eat the same foods. Max has zero body smell and his poop doesn't stink. Teddy has a baby smell and his poop stinks! :p It's part of his charm. ;)

This ^^^. Plus, the smellier poop may contain larger amounts of undigested food (fermented, stinkier). The one who has the smellier poo - did he ever have giardia or any tummy/GI sickness before? You may want to consider giving a probiotic if you suspect his GI's flora may be off.

The one with the smellier poo has neve had any tummy issues. She can almost eat anything and nothing bothers her tummy. The one with the less fragrant poo is the one that is bothered by any change in diet or environment. How would I know if the GI flora may be off? Is tummy issues a symptom?

Since the odor in feces is usually due to bacterial action, I would guess that the presence of adequate bacteria to do the work of full digestion is what is so smelly and that the one who perhaps doesn't digest as well perhaps doesn't have adequate bacteria?

Could that be why Tatiana has such smelly poop......she has had tummy troubles.

Neither of my boys have had recurring tummy issues (each had a 24 hour virus once, and Teddy had a 48 hour bug more recently).

Teddy is sort of a nervous/anxious guy internally. He gets anxious waiting for his favorite activities. Would that be why he is more fragrant? I definitely think his body chemistry is different than Max's.

Did the one w/ smellier poopies go on any antibiotics? When Princess was on antibiotics for her colitis (she's very sensitive), her poopies were so stinky! We're currently using Wysong Biotic pH-, it has probiotics in it too, makes their poopies very firm & a lot less stinky.

Was Teddy on antibiotics by any chance? It can kill both the good & bad bacterias, thus a recurrence of bad flora can happen making 'fragrant' poopies if probiotics are not given to replenish the good flora.

The one with the smellier poopies has not been on any antibiotics. She has a cast iron stomach. I know this is way too much information...... but her poopies come out in pieces. She drinks plenty of water during the day.

The one with the poopies that hardly smell has been on antibiotics for one thing or another over the years and can have a nervous stomach. Any deviation from a normal routine sets her up for diarrhea.

LOL, yes, fragrant. :p

Teddy was on antibiotics once recently, but he has always had stinkier poops. The only other thing I can think of is that Teddy might be expressing his glands every time he poops, whereas Max only expresses outdoors.
