Probiotic/Digestive Enzymes Hello everyone! Reese's veterinary recommended that Reese should be on probiotic/digestive enzymes supplement and the one his veterinary was recommending was at least $80+. I told his veterinary that I'll do some research to see if I could find one that was inexpensive and if not, I'll purchase it. I don't mind spending that much but if I could find an inexpensive alternative, why not, right? I found a couple that I like but I would like to know what you use on your babies. Thank you! -From Reese & I! |
I like Nature's Farmacy - Nature's Farmacy - Store - Results Either the Probiotic Max (this is what I use now) or the Dogzymes Digestive Enhancer (have used this as well). |
I sprinkle a little Forti Flora on Kinder's breakfast every morning. She loves it too. Susan |
I'm curious --- is there a reason why dogs can't have probiotics made for humans? Does anybody know? |

Drs Foster & Smith Probiotics Plus has been a godsend for my 15 year old Jake who was having terrible diarrhea due to chronic renal failure. It's pretty inexpensive, they ship quickly, and it doesn't have to be refrigerated. AND he actually likes them! |
So, exactly why do you give probiotics? |

Do any pet stores carry it? Or does it have to be ordered online? (Im in Canada) |
I reach for them every time they have a bout of loose stools or they have eaten something different. They save the day ALWAYS! |
It's also a good preventative any time your dog (or you) has to take antibiotics. Antibiotics not only kill the bad bacteria, they will also kill some of the beneficial bacteria. The probiotics will restore or maintain the proper balance in the intestinal tract. About 40 years ago, my aunt had a friend that was prescribed antibiotics, and she foolishly thought that if taking it as prescribed was going to cure her, why not just take them all at once? It put her in the hospital and she almost didn't make it. Ralston-Purina, the manufacturer of Forti-Flora routinely do invasive and harmful testing on dogs after which they kill many of the dogs they test their products on. Thought I'd let you know. |
