What to feed a puppy! Will be getting my pup first week in July! Reading real bad things about commercial dog food and what they use (dead dogs and cats) to make it! Yes real eye opener! So what to feed? Raw, make my own or is there a good brand that doesn't use what I mentioned above? Thank you in advance for your replays Daddy & Tucker |
Congrats on your new puppy! There are numerous threads in the Health & Diet section about good foods going on right now. How old will the pup be? It's best to feed the puppy the same food the breeder was feeding to avoid any tummy upsets & not to add any additional stress. Avoid foods/ ingredients like: meat & bone meal, animal or poultry digest, animal or poultry fat, natural flavors, fish oil, anything that doesn't name a specific meat or animal. They can come from rendered 4D meat's: Dead, Dying, Diseased & Disabled. |

For the first month at least they need to stay on what the breeder is feeding them. There are good brands of dog food. Raw is not good for puppies because there systems are not ready for it and it can make them sick. Home cooking is ok but you need to talk to a vet nutritionist because not doing a balanced for dogs recipe and not using supplements can do more damage to your dog then you think. |
He'll be 11 weeks when I pick him up. She's feeding him Purina puppy chow moistened. |

As bad as Puppy Chow is, I would stick with it for at least a couple of weeks. Give your baby time to adjust to his new home before changing his food. I made the mistake of trying to switch Sam too soon after I brought him home. It took me 3 months of trial, error, and repeated trips to the store to return bags of food that he wouldn't eat. |
