Addiction Dog Food Does anyone here feed their dog the Addiction dehydrated food? I was recommended to the Kangaroo since it is a novel protein, and haven't found any negative reviews on it, especially found the positive statements about "picky" dogs eating it "like there is crack in it" encouraging. :D |
Anyone? |
Not familiar with it but maybe you can ck it out @ dogfoodadvisor.com. |
The ingredients look really good -- I think the only con is the modest amount of meat. Maybe cut down just a hair on the serving size and add a bit of protein? I have not tried feeding raw meat before, so I don't know the general guidelines on it and won't make suggestions. Hm ... |
Canola oil being high on the list of ingredients is a little strange, but I think that's because the meat is lean, and the food had to be supplemented with some kind of fat. Dogfoodadvisor gives it three stars (recommended), but they're rating the venison version, not the kangaroo version. Thanks guys! I ordered this stuff because the Picky Ones wouldn't eat the dry prescription food that I paid a fortune for. I wanted to keep it in the "family" of novel proteins, and came across this brand, as I have yet to find a canned 'Roo formula. If The Boys like this, and do ok on it, I think I'll try them on the Brushtail formula, too. You know, I just HATE to think of feeding them critters I'd keep as pets if I could, but it is getting completely out of hand here with the "novel proteins". From duck to rabbit and everything else, I've tried Neo on, since he is the really sensitive one. Hopefully, it will prove to be just the enviro allergies, and NOT food allergies that has BOTH of them itchy! THAT I can deal with! |

Maybe if you add raw meat, it would be really nice. I just am afraid to advise on that because a lot of people dislike raw diets and feeding raw meat in general and find it an all around controversy. I've heard good things from the people that do it, but I don't want to advise someone in a direction I'm unsure of! :-P |
Yeah-I have a problem in that Neo WILL NOT eat ANY kind of raw meat! Absolutely turns his nose up at it, and looks at me with the "What the HELL, Mom? Aren't you gonna COOK it first?". The dehydrated or freeze dried meat, to him, is not considered "raw", lol!:p Connor likes some raw, but prefers cooked, too. My problem is that adding any more meat to the stuff won't help, because I need something they have never eaten before. Can't get kangaroo around here, and if it were available, too cost prohibitive.:( |
How does he act when he is itchy? If it's food, look for excessive paw licking and belly scratching. ^^ I've never given her raw meat, but I'm certain Nilla would devour it. We had people coming over once and my husband had pork chops in the bottom of the fridge waiting to be cooked. Lo and behold I go to get a couple things out of the fridge to cook and Nilla had stolen one of the raw pork chops (took it away from her and disposed of it, but she got a few chunks out!). I'll tell you there hasn't been any pork on the bottom shelf of the fridge anymore, lol! |
Don't know a thing about it, Anna. Let us know how they do on it ok? :) |
