Gucci has a bump on her tummy Gucci got spayed in October. I notice that were she had the incision done now she has a bump. At first it was very small but today when i was petting her I notice it has gotten bigger. I had asked the vet about it and she said it was scar tissue. I was wondering what you think. Im going to take her to the vet next month to get that check out. I just hope is nothing bad. She is eating, playing and acting like always. She doesn't seem to have any pain or bother when I pet her tummy. I will keep you all posted. |
Im buming this, hoping someone will answer. |
Hopefully someone with more experience will respond. |
Yes, it is most likely scar tissue and as time goes on it should smooth out a lot. |
Toto has a tiny one that I can feel underneath the skin that the vet says is nothing. It has never changed. If Gucci's changed and got larger, I believe I would certainly have it checked out. Keep us updated? |
When Bubba was 6 months old we had him neutered. He still has a little bump there. It moves around a little. My vet said the same thing about it being scar tissue. I think if you are really concerned, take her in. |
Awww...poor Mom...I've heard lots of yorkies have little bumps after the surgery but you are really good to spot it and if it doesn't bother you ....it sounds like you can wait till you see your vet....I think that would be my decision if I were in your shoes - but you have to do what you feel is best for YOU and Gucci - Good luck - I have a good feeling it's just from her surgery |

Thank you so much Villette. Im pretty sure is just scar tissue but you know us worry moms. Im thinking to take her to the vet next month just to be safe. She is not compalining about it, I just want to make sure is not a hernia or tumor. Thank you again. |
One of my cats had a small bump from her spay. It was right where the knot from her stiches was (right around the middle of her belly). I guess my vet uses some kind of internal dissolvable stiches or something, so we never had to have them removed, but her body formed a little scar tissue capsule around the knot. It mustn't have dissolved corretly.... Her body actually just rejected it and eventually pushed it out and to the surface, and then once I saw it, I just pulled it out and her bump went away. I took the kitty in to be sure it was nothing. (My vet said she was fine and it happens sometimes). I think it's a good idea to take your pup in. If it's some kind of complication, then they'll catch it.... but if it's normal, at least they can ease your fears! |
My Ginger had a little scar tissue bump. :aimeeyork |
Chelsea had surgery like 8 yrs ago and she still has a small bumpy spot where her incision was made to this day. I bet that's what Gucci has too. |
Annie was spayed at the end of January. I'd say within a month she had healed up completely no scars and no scar tissue. Then the second week in March my husband and I were going on vaca to Italy and we had a layover in Chicago to drop her off at my parents. Well at the airport in Newark I noticed this huge lump in the location of her spay area. I was freaking out. My parents took her to a vet in Chicago. The vets there said that it was probably just a residual from her surgery and that it should go away. Well slowly over a course of a couple of weeks it did go down and away. I didn't even take her to her regular vet for confirmation cause it was going away.... Hope this helps... |
Thank you so much everyone. I called the vet and she is on vacation. I can see her partner but since Is not an emergency IM going to wait until she gets back. I will keep you all posted. Im pretty sure is scar tissue. I just want to be sure. |
The bump has gotten bigger Im getting very worried because the bump on her tummy has gotten bigger. You can even see it. I called her vet and we have an appt for the 27. I have a feeling that is a hernia. If anyone has information on hernias on Yorkies and the surgery I will apreciated. I want to be prepare when we visit the vet. Also If any yorkie here had a hernia repair done, I was wondering how they are doing, how much was the surgery and any other info you may have. Thank you so much. |
Oh, Marie! My first thought was scar tissue...but since it's getting bigger, I really don't know. Please keep us updated on Gucci! :( |
Don't worry Marie, I had the same exact experience with Coco. I got her spayed and the incision spot, though tiny, started getting bigger. Underneath the skin it felt like there was something there. I talked to vets and others and now after 4 months since her surgery the scar and bump is ALLLLL gone. It just needed some time to heal. I was also so worried but I was assured it was just scar tissue. I'm sure every pup takes their own time to heal. Coco's took about 3-4 moonths for the bump to completely disappear. I can't even see where it was anymore. |
Marie, if its scar tissue, you should be able to roll the skin between your fingers and feel that the bump is on the skin and not something internal. I've never had a hernia, but my brother and hubby both did and they were in pain. Does Gucci seem to be hurting? Even if it is scar tissue the fact that its getting bigger would concern me. |
Gucci's bump pic 2 Attachment(s) Sherry Lynn, The bump seems to move and she doesn't seem in any pain. I took some pics so you can see. It hasn't gotten any bigger, but I think is pretty big and im worry. I called the vet and her appt is for the 27. My apologies that he hair being so while, I havent being able to give her a good grooming cause I have bing sick. I have brushed her but not as good. :( I might take her to the groomers just for a basic cut, just nails and private. |

Marie, this is what Annie's "bump" looked after she had her spay... It was completely normal for a month after the surgery and then out of nowhere grew to something of that size. In time it did go away. I'll be honest with you I can't remember how long it was. But it did go away. I guess that it was some sort of "scar tissue" as the vets had said. I guess it just seemed odd to me cause it wasn't there and then all of a sudden it just popped up. But to ease your mind, just take Gucci to vet to get it checked out. I don't know anything about hernias... But that looks alot like the bump that popped up out of nowhere for Annie... |
Oh Marie, I hope Gucci's okay, the vet will be able to tell you if it's just scar tissue. She'll be okay :) |

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. |
I hope it is scar tissue but I am concerned that it got bigger? Seems like scar tissue would dissolve. Sometimes they develope a hernia at the spaying site b/c that area is fragile until it heals completely. It isn't serious but I know what you mean about not wanting her to go through surgery again. I am sorry you can't get an answer until the 27 b/c the worrying is going to be the worst part  It will help you to know what you are dealing with and be able to make plans. If a surgery is in her future I hope you can postpone it until something like teeth cleaning is due. Let us know how this turns out. best wishes |
Gosh, that does look like a big bump. I am NOT an expert--in fact, I am the opposite--but that does not look like scar tissue to me. Maybe you can into the vet a little sooner? |
oh--maybe you can get your vet's email address and send him/her those photos. |
My feeling is that it is an incisional hernia. It would be soft and when you take one finger and gently push and move your finger around a WEE bit, you would be able to "reduce" it. That is it will push back thru the small rent or hole in the abdominal wall. If those things happen, it would be my bet that she has a hernia. Was there extra surgery done besides spaying. The scar looks really long to me, but that is just my opinion. I would take her to the vet who did the surgery and get an explanation from him.. |
