Refuses to walk like he use to... Ian use to walk around our sub-division twice, but lately we noticed that he will barely make one complete circle. He had a physical two weeks ago, and all was well. He also had blood work done because he had his dental the following week. Maybe it's because of the pollen, idk. We walk him in the mornings, and in the evenings after 6 when it's not as hot. He walks mostly on the grass so his feet won't get hot. He is very active in the house, and gets a lot of exercise running up and down the stairs. He's eating, drinking, potty-ing, and pooping as normal. Should I be concerned? |
what does he do when he wants to stop and how old is he? |

That sounds unusual for him. I would get him to the vet, something isn't right. He must feel uncomfortable and walking is irritating whatever it may be. Good Luck, it is so frightening when our little ones don't act normal. |
Are you sure it isn't the humidity and intensity of the sun? I am up in Virginia and we have been waiting until 7 pm because for our evening walk. Even when the temperature isn't that high, the humidity has been stifling. In the mornings, my boys' tongues are hanging way out pretty quickly. |
This is so weird, but Ian just ran and got one of his toys, and ran downstairs with it. He acts fine inside, but freezing up during his walks. |
When my girls don't want to walk it is bc something is bothering them legs, hips, or it is just too hot. I remember bf Daisy was diagnosed with lyme she would only walk about a half a mile and she would sit down like I can't do this Mom I didn't realize until she started limping that the poor girl just wasn't feeling well. Did they test for lyme? I think I would make sure that everything was ok with him physically. I know he had a vet appointment a couple of weeks ago but did they do a blood panel on him? Pixie is almost 4 and when she stops walking it is bc she is too hot or tired, or needs a drink. |

Have you tried taking a different route? |
Thank you all for your help. I have tomorrow off, so I will watch him and take him to the vet if this continues...or take him to the vet, just in case. He did have blood work almost two weeks ago for his dental. They don't test for Lyme disease here, I guess that's pretty much done in the NE. Ok, my hubby just said to take him to the vet tomorrow to make sure he is alright. It could be that he is tired, or the pollen, or the humidity. We bring water when we walk him, and he will drink a little. A stroller is an option. My husband wants to make sure that nothing is wrong with his heart. He did have a busy 30 minutes when he was on lizard patrol. Maybe that tired him out. |

Jackson is an extremely active boy, but once any humidity starts, he hates to walk very long. Typically we do 4 miles but once temps are above 85 + humidity, 1 mile does him in. |

I made a doctor's appointment for Ian for 9 this morning. I decided to take him to a park, about 7:15, just to see how he did. He walked all over the place without any issues, and did not want to get back in the car to go home. I called his vet, and told her what was going on, and she said that she was looking at his charts from his last visit, and everything was fine. She said to watch him, and if needed bring him in. He's acting as he normally does. My husband and I were trying to figure out why he refused to walk here, and had no problem at the park. I contacted our HOA to find out if the landscapers sprayed something that maybe he's sensitive to. Waiting to hear back from them. This is so weird, but he is acting totally fine. |
