I am not a professional, however, I can share my experience. I do not believe that the length of tail have anything to do with problems with anal gland. I have 2 Yorkies. Jay Jay with a longer tail (about 4 inches) and Innie with a shorter tail (about 1 inch). I have to empty Jay Jay’s gland every week. Never for Innie though. My other Yorkie, Jon Jon, also had a short tail, but I never had to worry about his anal gland. Another thing, Jay Jay and Innie are raw fed and Jon Jon was on Kibbel for his entire life. So I don’t think their diet matters. I understand that the anal glands usually empty when they defecate, but when they fail to empty it can be emptied by the dog's owner, by a groomer or by a veterinarian. I’ve Googled when I first noticed Jay Jay was sitting uncomfortably and have learned how to empty his anal gland. It was not a pleasant thing I wanted to do, but I did it and it was successful. I do not think antibiotic infusion is necessary unless indicates of infection which the presence of blood or pus. Hope this helps. |
I can only assume that I know what your vet is alking about. Anibitic can be infused into te area (my get uses Animax). But why antibiotic if they are just full? If thy are infected, yes... Depending on vet reference, andsthesia is not always used. Some elieve 30 seconds of pain is notworth risking a life. I personally would not put my dogs under for this. If stools are firm and they still have to be emptied constantly they can be removed. Second opinion... |

Hi there just wanted to give You all an update sorry its been so long! Well Mitsi is now going to have Her glands expressed nearly every 2 weeks, so Its extended from a week to now 2 weeks. Our vet and the techs keep pressuring Me to do the anal infusion which I can hardly find anything or proof that it even works online really. Even the vet says it may do nothing except give them a hint on whats going on in the glands. Im hesitant still because I don't like the idea of putting Her under even for a short amount of time, Shes only 7lbs. So right now Im going to try a grain free food for Her and see if it helps. anyone know of any good brands? Shes on Blue Bufflo right now and loves it, but Im considering trying Orijen? |
