omega 3 M vet suggested omega 3 by nutramax. I was wondering if this is safe for my girls. I know yorkies are prone to pancreatitis and was wondering how safe this is. ing:1450 mg of omega 3 1450 mg Eicosapentaenoic acid 750 mg Docosahexaenoic acid 500 mg That is in on 6ml scoop and they suggest 1/2 scoop |
Why did your vet recommend this? I've been giving Ruger Omega 3's for years and when I ran out and couldn't find it I asked my "new" vet if it's really necessary and he said no. Rugers doing just fine. Anyway, all I can say is Ruger had no ill effects when he was taking it and he seems to be doing fine without it. |
She said that it would be good for Pixie and Daisy due to Daisy's injury and Pixie's luxating patella(only grade 1). She said it helps lubricate the joints and is good for their skin. |
There's a thread going on now about supplements. I'm not sure if you've already purchased the Nutramax. But I've heard a lot of good things about Nordic Naturals omegas. It's supposed to be an excellent brand & people seem to get good results. I just purchased a small bottle of the liquid on Amazon for $12. Most are using the soft caps. Here's a link to the thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...pplements.html Here's a link to the Nordic Naturals site: Nordic Pet Collection |
I agree with using Nordic Naturals (based on reviews here) or the one we use, Animal Essentials. Some fish oils are better than others. It is a nominal amount of added fat, but if you take into account your dogs' entire diet, it shouldn't be a problem. My boys get very few treats, so the fish oil I consider one of their treats. Cathy has pointed out that it can be difficult to determine the amount required for each dog to be therapeutic. |
ok thanks every one:) I just didn't want to give them anything that would cause health issues. I will check out the other thread too! |
My vet said omega 3 is good for the heart too. We just got the Nordic Natural in capsule form & it doesn't smell awful fishy, it has a very faint smell. Very happy w/it & they love it. |
