Bully sticks no more I feel the need to share Callie's story with everyone. A lot of yall know the story but for those that don't I would like to share. I used to be a big fan of bully sticks and recommending them to everyone because they are 100% digestible. Well I have a different stance now. Callie was chewing on her much loved bully bone and not only did her tooth they call the bone cruncher tooth (I think that's what it was called) brake the tip off the whole tooth cracked down the middle all the way to the gum. Callie has been chewing bully sticks pretty much her whole life and she will be 6 on Saturday so I feel her teeth are not "soft". This happened on a Saturday night and luckily I had pain meds and had her on them as soon as I saw it happen. Yes I saw it happen she was chewing and I heard a loud crack noise and she took off like lightning across the room so I picked her up and checked her mouth. I made sure she had no food after 12pm Sunday night and had her at the vet early Monday morning and they did surgery to remove it then and had to stitch her gums where they pulled the tooth. It was $549 dollars and lots of pain for her because I didn't listen to other people. The money was nothing compared to the fear of putting my baby under anesthesia and the pain she had to go through because I was an idiot. Please don't have the mentality of that will never happen to me or my dog because it can and could. Please be careful what you let you dogs chew on once and adult tooth is gone its gone. |
This story is very sad Taylor but I am glad you shared it. A lot of people don't realize the danger. Bless you and your baby!! |
wow I never knew that. I am so sorry she went through that and ty for sharing bc I give my girls bullys and I will not anymore..!!!! I always thought that they were safe.:( |
I'm glad Callie is well now. You took very good care of her. My boys didn't like bully sticks, so I never had to make the choice. |
I pulled the bully sticks, Texas toothpicks, Himalayan chews, antlers.. etc awhile ago when Peanut got pancreatitis. I couldn't be happier that I did. Peanut has never been healthier. Peanut doesn't even miss them. Callie story is just another added incident to make me really not use them. |
Thanks for posting this story. I hope a lot of people read it and protect their dogs from them after reading what happened to Callie. |
Sorry that Callie had a mishap with a Bully Stick, but I once cracked a tooth on a slice of pizza. I still love and eat pizza. |

I am sorry your baby went through that. Jasper loves his bully stick. But his health and well being mean the world to me. I'm not taking any chances. It is going in the trash. |
Oh no Your poor baby. I never gave Mitsi bully sticks even thogh Our vet was highly recomending them. She likes the USA made rawhides however. but they are softer and kinda flexable. and they keep Her stinky breath at bay |
I learned the hard way too. Jess loved them but they didn't love her. She got the runs. Peanuts Mom helped me out with what to do so no more Bullt sticks... |
Poor baby. Give her lots of love for me please!! poor thing hope she feels better |
So sorry this happened to Callie...mine hasn't had BS for a few years now due to one almost choking to death on apiece |
Oh, no....:( now what do you give them to chew on? Puppies really need to chew and it keeps their teeth clean! Soooo now what? Mine won\'t chew on any thing but Bully Sticks! I don\'t give them treats and I feel they need some thing to help keep their teeth clean. Max doesn\'t chew on any thing and his teeth get so bad and need a cleaning at least once a year! Any suggestion? |
