Heart worm Reaction I gave Galen Iverhart for heart worm last month and he threw it up but not thinking I also put frontline on him. So I thought maybe it was the combination of the two. So this week I gave him Iverhart and he threw it up. I was wondering has anyone used this and had the same reaction. What are you using now? |

I think this is the one that a friend gave her little boy and he had the same problem. They are going to try switching to Sentinel next month. |

I get my recommendations and my meds from my vet--that way you won't give the same active ingredient to your dog twice by accident. I use Revolution (by prescription from my vet). It's a topical, and controls fleas, mites, worms, heartworms, and dog ticks (but not deer ticks). They make it for all different sizes of dogs, and my vet said it was safe for puppies too. The only symptom that Bella had when I applied it to her at 12 weeks (she weighed 3 pounds) was a few hours of drowsiness, and she recovered fine. That said, other posters have reported side effects from Revolution, so if you try it, get only one dose to see how your dog handles it. Also, since it's a topical, you have to be sure that you part the hair between the top shoulders and apply it to the skin so that it is all absorbed. |

I hated to read this and once again get scared about this stuff. We have to use it in Texas so I don't have a choice and Tibbe's due date for his next preventative dose is coming up in 10 days or so. He's been on Heartgard since we ran out of Interceptor but this last dose of it - well, the next day he got sick. Of course, he's been having the trouble every so often for a year so this could very well have been coincidental. We're seeing the vet Thursday and we'll discuss what to change to in light of his likely MVD and gulp, go from there. I sure wish we they made more HW preventative without the extras in it now that I know Tibbe has high BAT - though not sure how his underlying problem is affected by heartworm preventative. This is all too scary. I hope you find something Galen can take safely, Teri. |

Thank you all. I have a call into my vet. He is on vacation wont be back until friday. There is other vets but he is the boss and he knows my OCD with my babies lol. The tec told me to give him revolution with a flea and tick collar. We have a lot of deer here and I do not want to risk deer ticks. yuck I said I will not use a collar. When I put a kitten collar on him, so I know where he is, all he wants to do is chew it. There is no way I am going to put that on him and that crap doesn't work. |

Hi Everyone! You know me, I hate using any meds. I went to my vet yesterday. He said I have to use something and not take chances. He said I could use Revolution so I ordered it from PetMeds.com It cost me 87.00 for a 3pack for JoJo and a 3pk for Spud. I pray before I use this but after reviewing all the meds I do think this one is fairly safe. Now I worry about Tibbe being so sick and then putting meds in him. But what to do, he can't get fleas, ticks or heartworms? I am sorry to hear your dog had a reaction and threw up, Verbena. I would not give that again. Last year I gave mine the revolution and had no vomiting. Vet recommended Triflexis, I said no. I heard dogs vomit on that stuff. I wish there was a safe alternative. Do some research on line and check out the reactions to a certain med. To be if one dog dies, that is too many. I love all pets and hate to hear of a death because someone used some cheap, poison on their dog. Do not go to Walmart or buy that cheap stuff. Definitely not good. |
