I will take the sample they leave me tonight to the vet tomorrow when I am going and see what he says. I think Joe has a very fussy tummy. Pixie is usually ok but cannot travel in the car ... she gets sick .... so the vet trip should be fun even before we get there ... I will be ready with mopping up items :) I will let you know what happens.

To be honest...I never measured Princess Sophie's food. We just began free feeding her from the start because I knew that as she grew she would want more if she was going through a growth spurt and sometimes less. We let her decide and I just watch her to make sure she is eating and drinking. I know you can't over feed a puppy, they will just eat what they need and since we feed dry dog food it's no big deal. Just have to keep our other dog out of it! LOL

Thanks so much for that I will have a read anyway. I need to learn as much as I can to make Pixie and Joes life as happy as possible. I love them dearly and hate to see then suffer in any way, especially if it my fault ..

Sending positive thoughts for your babies. It probably is nothing, just a little digestive track irritation, but it is always best to check to make sure it isn't giardia or something like that.

I agree with the others that the amount you are feeding sounds good. Also, the kibble you are feeding balanced and no additional vitamins are needed, so you don't have to worry about those coming out the wrong way again. :)

I will definately let you know! There are so many different pieces of advice and it seems that some people free feed and others feed three to four times a day ... very confusing for a newbie :) I have one puppy who is a glutton and the other feeds more slowly, so hard to decide what to do. I suppose we are all the same and want to do the best for our babies! I didn't question the vet when I was given the vitamins and minerals. They are the ones who are supposed to know are't they .. some not as good as others. There is definately something wrong with Joe ... passing mucus is not normal in a puppy, so this has to be checked.

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: This is what I'm doing now. The first few days, I measured the food to be sure she was eating enough, but now that I know Bella loves her food and doesn't have any problems with it, I pretty much free-feed her and let her eat the amount she wants to.

Since Pauline has two puppies, I'd recommend watching their eating habits for a few days, just to be sure that one is not being a bully and preventing the other from eating. Even though I have only one puppy, I can tell that Bella used to have food issues at the breeder's before I got her because she will pick up one kibble, run to a safe part of the house to eat it, and then run back to the food bowl to grab another kibble. She probably had to compete for food with a bully, and that habit carried over, even though she no longer has any competition for her food.

I hope you are right ... little one don't need to go through huge traumatic experiences ... it frightens them and knocks their confidence on the following vets visits. It's just so great to have a place like Yorkietalk to meet other Yorkie Momma and Pappas and get clear good advice :love:

Poor Bella ... yes you are right we never know what happens at the breeders do we! I got my puppies from Brother that are breeders and there is a complete difference in both my puppies. One is a complete glutton and a bully and the other is more of a sweetheart and very clever, learning things a lot faster ... We really have to watch Pixie as she bullies Joe ... very unfair and yet they get on so well other times.

Thanks for all your help and great adviced yesterday. I went off to the new vet with my two puppies and hubby to help out as well. The first thing I noticed is that Pixie did not get sick on the journey?? I have the puppies sitting on my pal while hubby drove ... normally they would be in a carrier, so I am think the carrier is causing Pixie problems, as we did both journeys with her not getting sick at all. The vet gave both puppies a complete exam and took their temperatures. It seems there was one injection my own vet didnt give them! Strange but that was sorted out today. They were also weighed and and checked completely. She chatted about their food and is very happy with the amount and the Hills Science Diet for puppies. She is concerned about Joe's pooh and passing mucus but says it can be sorted out easily. She gave me a thing called diarsanyl (it maintains digestive function). It is in a tube with a wheel on it and I have to give one turn on the wheel twice daily. When I turn the wheel the oral paste comes out. The more you turn the more paste, so Joe has one to get one turn twice daily. I am very happy with this vet and she did everything that wasn't done at my locals vets. They are however major expensive .. For two injections, a full health check and the paste for Joe I was charged €97 and I nearly hot the floor approx $125 ... OMG! I have another appointment next Monday ... to make sure Joes tummy is settling down. I have to say I am very happy but can not afford prices like this too often ... :2omg:

I'm very happy to hear that you like your new vet. Hopefully the paste will fix Joe's digestive track and he will be back to normal by next week.

I'm glad too that Pixie didn't get sick in the car. Some dogs do better if they can see, kind of like humans on a boat -- looking at the horizon can help prevent sea sickness. You might try a car booster seat for Pixie in the future. Of course, being on mom's lap probably helped too. :) Max cried in the car his entire first year.

Vet care is expensive! Hopefully your babies won't need to go back for awhile after next week's follow up.

Thanks for all your concern Kristin. It's so helpful feeling I can ask for advice. It seems Joe might be lactose intolerant as there is no lactose in the paste, so we will see how he reacts. I have got the feeling grams down to a tee now. I have started to weigh their food and give 18 grams x 3 feeds per day which adds up to 54 grams. The vet also told me to only give kipple treats for now until puppies are well settled. She said a little over their normal dailt allowance is no harm ... but I don't want them getting too over weight either .. I feel we are on the right road now. Pixie and Joe seem so happy today .. up to al kinds of divilment :)

I'm sure it is very comforting to see their happy puppy antics. :)

Don't worry too much about overfeeding for the first 8 months or so. Puppies are pretty good self regulators and they burn off the fuel with their playtime and growing.

It isn't until about 8 months to a year, or when they are spayed/neutered that you have to be concerned about intake a weight gain.

That is a great help Kristin thank you. We had a cat for 17 years, her name was Mazzie and we loved her dearly. She passed away on 4th March and I couldn't cope with an empty house. I asked Hubby if we could get a dog and he said flat out definately NO!! I was really upset but didnt show it .. he knows me well and after a few days told me if I really wanted a dog, then it was ok to go ahead! Now he loves the puppies and talks to them as if they are children .... best decision ever :)

That is so sweet of your husband! Yorkies have a way of winning over everyone, especially men who say they would "never!". :D My big brother, the one we call Rambo, turns to mush around my boys.

How funny that you went for a pup and ended up with 2. :)

I'm sorry for your loss of Mazzie. RIP. :(
