http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...t-yorkies.html Cooked bones, especially chicken and pork, are out because they splinter. Some people swear by raw chicken bones for puppies, but that would make me nervous. I think I'd go for something stronger and more substantial like a raw beef rib bone. People mention femurs, but aren't they huge? (I'm thinking Fred Flintstone size, LOL! :D). Unless they mean cut in cross section as "rings"... |

After paying $1500 for a cracked premolar, I don't feed bones. |

Femur bones are the ones cited most on large dog forums for cracking teeth. Any hard bone is a risk. Many people use bones without problems, but depends on how heavy a chewer the dog is. My boys are mighty chewers and would definitely crack their teeth. Max chipped a couple. |
I started brushing my dogs teeth as puppies. I use a small child's toothbrush and CET dental toothpaste. Mine like vanilla flavor or poultry flavor. I also have used a small bit of coconut oil on the brush since one of my dogs doesn't enjoy oral hygiene. |

We only use bully sticks occasionally. Never had a problem. I buy the thick 12" ones though so they last for a while. He will not chew on anything else (nylabones, himaylan chews, CET chews). He just either carries them around, whines and buries them, or doesn't touch them at all. |
My pups are crazy for bull sticks, they will chew them all day and since my pups are small they last a long time. |
I had one of my girls break off a piece of a bully stick...she was choking!! :eek! THANK GOD! she got it up herself!!,but, it was a small one...maybe I should try a bigger fatter one? |
The best things are small beef femur bone, boiled and the excess meat and marrow removed. I also bought those tightly rolled rawhide that supposed to be ground then rolled. They have had those things for at least two years and just don't chew them. (But my sons two little dogs do when they come to visit). They do love their beef femur bones though and each one has their own hiding place. It's so cute. |
I used to give my boys the CET chews from the vet. JoJo chews them until they are gummy and he has thrown up pieces of that stuff. Scares me so I won't give him those. Right now they do not get anything except tough toys to chew on. I found the coolest dog toys at our Walmart. Made by Kong. It is a ball with bumps on it and a place to put a treat. Also there is a bumpy bone. JoJo loves them. Safe and fun to chew on. |
