ringworm!!!!! Well..... i have been wondering what the wierd crusty patches were on my two babies. Sony (6 months) I think had it first.... then stella (1 year and 3 months).... though stella seems to have it worse. Anyway... they have been on antibiotics in case it wasn't fungus but the scrapings revealed it is ringworm! So now I am itching all over thinking about how I can get it. They have miconazole ointment for now but if that doesn't cut it they will have to take an oral anti fungal. This all bothers me because they have been all over the house and different places because I didn't know what it was. Anyone have any ideas how to speed up their recovery process? Also.... how can I get the spores out of my house. I know it is going to require bleach. Anyone else experienced this before? Thanks so much! |
Dont have any idea how to help you but I am bumping it up so somebody else may come up with something. |
Oh my! Max had this when we got him as a puppy 5 years ago. We had a horrible case in our home. Here is what tips of what I did. (1) We had a huge kitchen area that was tiled. He was restricted to that area and the laundry room. Also tiled. I had a squirt bottle I did the counters, sinks, and kitchen surfaces with. Be careful when working with bleach in any dilution. Rinse with clean water afterward. Wear gloves and glasses. EVERY night I used 1 cup bleach to bucket of hot water and mopped the tile floors. Put Max in Laundry room while I did kitchen dining area. Then reverse. (2) We all caught ring worm in the family. Even the cat. Check yourselves often and treat. We had to go to the Dr. for Rx strength because OTC remedies were not strong enough. (3) Bleach all whites and bedding that can be bleached. Wash everything else you can in your house as often as you can. All clothes, surfaces, you name it. Wash wash and wash. Wash your hands all the time. We tried the oral meds on Max. Didn't work. We had him shaved and sulfur dipped for about 2 months. Didn't work. I had to give him daily baths with vet shampoo for ringworm. Didn't work. EVentually it just ran it's course. Took almost a year before everyone was clear. I may have been a bit OCD but it was a terrible case. Just be vigilant and get on top of it quickly. I hope some of my experiences help you. I am sending thoughts and prayers you way that it is a mild strain of WR. Ours was not. |
Oh my goodness! That must have been so awful! I hope it doesn't come to that with us. Thank you so much for your advice! I scrubbed and scrubbed and lysoled everything. I will keep it up:) also I bought detergent with color safe bleach in it and washed all our sheets and the dog bedding and toys and harnesses. I am also going to ask thd vet tomorrownif I can bathe them in miconazole shampoo or tea tree oil shampoo and see if that helps. ThNk you so much for taking thr time to tell me your story. It has really helped me to know what to do! |
I'm sorry to hear about your babies and the ringworm. Years ago I bought my daughter a guinea pig, a white long haired one and he had ringworm. I caught it and had to go to my dermatologist to get medicine. It cleared up pretty quickly. Snowball the GP had to take liquid medicine, don't remember what it was. I also had to take her to a small animal vet every week for a sulfur bath. She would come back yellow. It took a couple of months but it cleared up completely. My daughter never came down with ringworm yet she played with him. I hope you can get it cleared up soon. |

I didn't find YT until after this event in our lives. All is good now. :aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
I'm not sure if this works on our furbabies but when my sons were little they had ringworm in their heads. They picked it up at the daycare center. I used all the over the counter stuff and the 30 day oral antibiotics but the ringworm was winning! An older lady told me to take a bar of gold dial soap and rub it over their entire head and in spots on their body and let it dry for as long as I had time to do so, rinse and repeat each night. After about a week or so that nasty stuff was gone. I washed all bedding in bleach, mopped the floors with bleach and sprayed all furniture with lysol and odo-ban. |
Ringworm is horrible to get rid of! I have a granddaughter that went to her other grandma's house, who had cats. She got a horrible case of ringworm! It was all over her face, neck and some on her chest and arms. Her siblings got a couple of spots, but not bad. Wish you lots of luck! |
