Accidentally bought the wrong food. I accidentally bought Blue Buffalo small breed puppy food when I meant to get small breead adult for my 3 and 4 year old yorkies. Is this horrible? I've only used one cup of it so far. Help? |
The only thing is puppy food is often richer. Higher in protein and fat and calories. So it MAY upset their belly. In general, no, it probably won't hurt them. But most places will let you return/exchange for a different food. |
Agree with Brit......there is very little difference in the two foods. Lots of places will take it back, but their is only a slight difference in calories, protein, fat and calcium. I have both here and read the side of the bags.....really wouldn't worry about it! |
I would exchange it just in case. But I'm sure a few meals won't hurt them. |
I would exchange that or donate it to your local shelter and get proper puppy food. You little one needs the special ingredients of a puppy food to get the right amounts of nutrients best for adequate bone, muscle, dental and tissue growth, bountiful energy and easy digestion. Adult dogs don't need the same levels of nutrients for growth, etc., so their food is different nutritionally. If you don't feed a human baby adult food then you don't feed a puppy the equivalent in dog food. |

OP, I would get adult food as your dogs could gain weight and get too much of one ingredient or the other for their best health. |
I agree that most places would exchange it. If not, then I'd get a bag of the adult food and mix them until gone. |
I'd donate it to a local shelter & go buy the kind you want. My mom bought ZoE a giant bag of Blue Buffalo last year, it's not what ZoE regularly eats and she didn't like it, so I took it to the human society nearest me and they were really happy to have it. |
