HELP!!! yorkie with liver shunt I have a 3 year old yorkie with liver shunt and I need help on what he should eat, vitamins he needs to take, or any medications he should take to keep his liver enzyme from elevating. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
Are you not going to have the surgery done to repair it? Has your vet given you recommendations as to what to feed? |
surgery is not an option because the scintography and CT result showed he has too many small shunt ( around 7) that he's not a good candidate. The risk is too high for a surgery. He's currently eating hepatic LS but I heard there are better choices out there. |
I would suggest a board certified vet nutritionist. You can find one at American College of Veterinary Nutrition You don't have to physically see them. You can have your vet contact them, or you can. They do need to see records. They have a wealth of knowledge. I have done consults on a few of my sick pups and some are on RX foods, some on home cooking. There is one down here in Houston who I have been very happy with. Her website is relatively new but her contact information is there www.lenoxnutrition.com |
When I posted about the nutritionist, I thought you were in Irving...thinking TX. Now I see Irvine. I am sure there are vet nutritionists close to you! Not that they must be close... |
