Frustrated and skin issues..... I could really use some advice.....I have my yorkies on BB Freedom, chicken-potato dog food. Teeka scratches but not bad. When I brought Tatiana home she did not have any skin issues and no scratching! I actually looked at her skin before I bought her and it was smooth and not any flakes. She was on Ekunuba dry and I transitioned her to BB Freedom. Now her skin is so flaky and scaley and she is itching a lot! I am assuming it is the food. I only use puppy shampoo and conditioner, so I don't think it is the shampoo. I talked to my vet and he said it is a quality grain free food. I am so frustrated right now. I know it could be something else besides food, but what? They also get Extra Virgin Coconut oil added to their food....no treats except Bully Sticks right not! |
Health wise....they are doing great! They have tons of energy, solid poops, gobble their food. Tatiana is gaining weight but Teeka has been stuck at 3.6 lbs for 3 months! (I would like Teeka to gain a little weight) Tatiana is 4 months and Teeka is 9 months. |
I can tell you I had a little brown poodle that had really bad skin. Tood Chips to the derm doctor and he said put her on a venison base food. I gave her that and she cleared up. Try to change her food and I hope this helps. |
Venison based....I think Earthborn Holistic has a grain-free version of this! I will check this out....Thank you so much! |
I don't have any suggestions! I hope you can find a way to clear it up. Keep us posted. Natural Balance also has a grain free venison and sweet potato formula. |
Is Tatiana from Iowa? If no, her skin issues could be a result of climate/region change. If she is a young puppy, allergies would be very strange to have at this point...but, allergies would be starting up in your area since it's April. The first thing I'd do is look at the label of the EUK food she was on - check out what the protein source was, and what the main carb was...and also peruse the other veggies/etc. Then, if I wanted a higher quality food than EUK, I'd look for a food that had the same main ingredients that the EUK had. |

We really like the Earthborn Holistics Coastal Catch(fish only)- my two yorkies are the shiniest dogs in the neighborhood and my wheaten who has had serious skin (and digestive) issues in the past is amazingly healthy on this food. I like the probiotics already included in the food, it really solved her yeasty ear issue. |

The kibble is the size of a pencil eraser, just flat and squared off- I like it because Abby swallows her food whole and she gets this down easily. Online(petfooddirect) has 6 lb bags- I am lucky right now to be able to feed all three on a 28 lb bag, bought locally, for 2 months! |

Talked to my vet and they don't think it is the food. If it was a sensitivity to food, then their skin would have sores//bumps and redness in the arm pit area. They recommend a special skin shampoo called Pyoben. It is for skin conditions like scaling, flaking and itching. Going to try this for a month and see if it gives Teeka and Tatiana some relief! Thanks everyone for the awesome advice. This is why I love YT! :) |
I hope it helps them. Please keep us posted. |
