i don't really know what "normal" is for her. i don't think she eats very much, however she only weighs 2 lbs. she seems to be going to the bathroom okay. she just sleeps, to me, a lot.. |

I don't want to brush this off lightly but she is a baby and babies need a lot of sleep. Our Princess Sophie is about the same age (born Jan 4th). She has times when she sleeps (a lot) usually followed by going potty and playing really hard. Then she's ready for another nap. LOL If you are really concerned you should take your pup you need to take her to the vet and soon. Problems with these babies can become really terrible rather quickly and I wouldn't wait. Good luck and please let us know what you decide to do. Blessings!! |
Puppies sleep alot, ut they also usually play hard for a bit and then fall asleep. Make sure she is eating enough so that her blood sugar doesn't get low. Did she see your vet yet? Keep us posted please. |
no i haven't taken her to the vet yet. i know her breeder. however, she isn't very nice and just gets offended every time i ask her a question about Chanel. she wanted 700 for her and dropped down to 400 because she "was leaving town and couldn't keep her" my mom is worried maybe they found out she was sick or something? Chanel seems to be in good spirits...when she's awake. lol |

i haven't taken her to the vet yet. i was going to wait until i take her for her 6 month shots. how much is normal for a puppy her size and weight to eat? i've been feeding her Nutra Ultra and she seems to like it. It sounds like she is the same as your puppies- sleeps, plays hard, then sleeps again. |
my husband thinks she is just tired because we can't keep her at our house due to our landlord so she is staying at my moms until we close on our house(next week) and she will only sleep with people so when my mom puts her up at night, she just cries, barks, and whines allllllll nights. so when she is with us, she sleeps. |
The thing that worries me when your 1st post said she doesn't play much. Given that you're giving Nutri-Cal and she's not playing hard, would worry me. I would say mine at this age eat about 1/4 cup in a 24 hour period. They usually play very hard, and very active in between naps. I would worry about low blood sugar. Sometimes they don't eat well in a new home and missing Mom and other littermates. I would get her checked asap just in case something may be wrong. Puppies that young can go down quick. |
okay i'll try to get her to the vet. she doesn't play with toys much. she just wants to play with people. i'm sure she is fine, it just worried me. she is my first yorkie and i wasn't sure what normal behavior was for them. |
If you are ever concerned, it really doesn't hurt to have a vet check it out. It is better safe than sorry! Is your puppy 3 or 4 months? |
A new puppy should always be seen by a vet within the first few days for a check up, just to make sure that nothing is medically going on with the pup. This also helps to start a relationship with your vet. He/she can get to know you and your pup and can become a great resource for you as your puppy grows up and throughout adulthood. The vet can also better assess the pup's behavior after seeing her and can tell you about what to expect during puppy growth stages. The first few weeks in a new home can be very stressful for a new puppy (even an older dog!). They find themselves alone, missing their Mom and littermates, and in a strange place where nothing is familiar to them. A new schedule, different food and toys, different people! So much for a small puppy to deal with! They are used to snuggling with their Mom and littermates, which was a great source of warmth and comfort for her. Now that is gone, so she wants to snuggle with you, her new Mom! Your body heat alone is comforting to her. Also, warmth improves digestion. As they grow, they will become more independent, but that takes a bit of time. Older pups and dogs will get clingy too when they don't feel well, seeking out extra warmth from their Moms. Sometimes that's all that's needed to make them feel better. Anyway, a vet check can reassure you that all is well, and is a good starting point in the care of a new puppy. |
