Sentinel is Back !!!!!!!!!! :):):):):) |
Thank God..and thanks for posting this. I just went through hell again trying to get Heartgard down Kiche's little hatch. |
Is Interceptor back? :( |
When? Where? Link? |
Notsure. Thinkng no. Sentinel just has the added Program though. We use both. |
I may look into Sentinel. I haven't ever used it. |
http://blog.vetdepot.com/novartis-an...-now-available The Pet Hospital Interceptor has been discontinued. I do also have confirmation that one f my get offices has it back in stock. |

Ok what can I use for ticks with Sentinel. Daisy can take sentinel and I can throw away the revolution! I was just telling you and ladyjane how i wanted to switch daisy off revolution for the summer. The boys like Heartgard, I'll prob just go with either. But, I don't think I can use frontline with Sentinel, right?? |
Yep you can. You can get the regular without the 'plus' too if you want. Would be peachy. I think that news release did say that Interceptor is no more. And to that I say :thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown. |
Never throw good meds away! If you give them back to your vet the staff can take them home and they can possibly be used for clients that can't afford... Shadows benefit too. Love free Tramadol. |
So, Interceptor is discontinued permenantly? I thought some vets were starting to get it back in late last year..? I don't use it for Mandie, but I do/did for Shelby-Dale. He has Sheltie in him so he can't take certain heartworm meds (like heartguard..) Is Sentinel the same as Interceptor? I'm not "up" on all the different base meds of the heartworm meds. |

Sentinel is Interceptor with Program added to it. I use Sentinel for mine and also comfortis. |
YAY!!!! I've been going to the Novartis website and looking for updates. Their last one was on March 8. When I went in to look about a week ago, that update page was gone. I was hoping that was a good sign, and it is! Thanks so much for the heads up. I also read that they had received FDA approval to add praziquantel to the formula to treat tapeworm. I wonder if they will have two different products, Sentinel and Sentinel Spectrum? Sentinel Spectrum Receives FDA Approval |

Ok, this is going to sound uniformed, too, but what is "program"? |

[SIZE=3]YES, I just got an email from my Vet announcing that it is FINALLY BACK. Also seems like it is going to be a lower price as well. |
Program is a chitin inhibitor. It does not kill fleas but makes reproduction impossible. Sentinel does nothing for ticks. i do not use tick products. We don't have to here. I hope they have two formulas. Should not need taoework protection if fleas are dealt with. Anybody sitching to Sentinel, remember it dan be nauseating. Always give with a meal, esp. for tummy upset prone pups. |
I called my vet and asked about something for ticks and they told me about this collar they have. I don't see how we COULDN'T have a tick problem in my area but I haven't seen one yet. I guess I'll have to think about it. There are only so many heartworm meds he can take being a herding dog and it's hard to find something with everything for him or with just heartworm med so I can give flea/tick preventative. I don't like the idea of the collar, though. |

I just checked Drs Foster and Smith website. I buy from my vet, but checked them out to see what their pricing would be. They say that they are expecting to receive a shipment on 4/22 and a year's supply is priced @ $55. |

When all of this started and my Vet ran out of the supply they had, I was at that time able to order from Foster's and Smith and bought enough at that time to last me until now. |
I am really confused... I use K9 Advantix II. Can I use Sentinel???? Are there different Sentinels? I have about 4 months left of Interceptor. Thanks |
Interceptor (milbemycin oxime) is for Heartworm, hookworm, whipworm, roundworm. K9 Advantix II is for ticks and fleas. Sentinel is the same as Interceptor, except it has an additional ingredient (lufenuron) that also covers fleas. Apparently they are going to discontinue Interceptor, so you have a decision to make. Sentinel would cover everything under your current combo except for ticks. I don't know how bad ticks are in your area (I've never had one on my dogs) or if you could get something separately for just ticks. Or, if there would be a problem in using both the Sentinel and the K9 Advantix II together. Or, if someone else makes an equivalent of Interceptor with just the milbemycin oxime alone ..... |
