Pippi is losing teeth today. My poor smilie girl is going to lose 4 or 5 teeth today...just received a call from my vet. I originally had her scheduled for a dental in Jan. or Feb. (forget the exact date) but because of other sick pups and personal health issues I put it off until today....today is exactly one year since her last one. I feel just awful about this because I do know she has awful periodontal disease. :( It was just that I was so overwhelmed running around with stuff that I felt it could wait. :( I just told my vet there will be no ifs ands or butts...Pippi will now be getting a dental every 6 months. We have been watching her...and I feel sick that I just did not go ahead and get it done when scheduled but between all of the sick pups and my own stuff, I cancelled her appt. :( |
well you cannot be perfect all the time and obviously at the time the sick babies took precedence..and we cannot always control that. please dont beat yourself up too bad Linda...wishing Pippi a successful procedure. |
Thanks, it just makes me sick. |
I'm sorry :( You're fighting genetics. At least you're doing what you can to help Pippi. Hope she feels better soon. |
Sometimes things can not be helped. Praying it all goes well for your girl today. |
Linda, don't beat yourself up!! You are one of the best yorkie moms around, you always make sure that your babies get good care. I know how you feel though, I thought I was doing a great job caring for Jada's teeth and had her dental done at 12 months from the last one, she still lost 6 teeth :( I didn't even realize she had more problems with her teeth. I will say that since having them pulled she acts like a young pup again..more playful and active. It made me cry that she must have been somewhat in pain before and I didn't know it. |
Wishing Pippi a successful procedure today. Let us know how she does. |

I just sent an email to the vet nutritionist asking for feedback on the oral care diets. Cathy had mentioned that...maybe it would help. |

Well, she only lost two teeth. They were the upper 2nd molars and were very loose. She has two lower incisors that were loose, but they decided to pack them with Clinzgard with hopes of saving them. Perhaps it will work. They used that on one other other teeth last year that are now fine. :) As for the food...I need to think about it some more. Not sure I buy into that one.... |
Poor Pippi, I’m sure after her procedure she will feel better- Sending good thoughts to her for a fast recovery. You can’t blame yourself for something like that...We are only human. You are one of the best dog owners on here- you always put your pups before anything, you always make sure they are healthy and happy and have whatever they need- Don’t beat yourself up on this, as hard as it is for you- try not to. ((hugs)) |
God, dont beat yourself up. If I was half the great yorkie mom you are Id be on my own reality show.."the yorkie whisperer" |

Happy to hear Pippi lost only 2 teeth. Definitely do not beat yourself up. From what I know of human experience, a dental cleaning every 3 months won't necessarily prevent tooth loss. Like Cathy said, genetics. |
Good news that Pippi only lost 2! Praying that what they packed the other with will do the job :) |
