Peeing/Pooping off pee pad after surgery Latte got neutered yesterday. However, due to him having descended testicles, he had an abdominal incision. He is trained to on pee pads. However, since he came home from the surgery, he has been peeing/pooping all over the place. I turn my head for a few seconds, and he pees/poops. It seems like he completely forgot about pee pads. :( Anyone had similar experience before? Is he acting like this because he's uncomfortable? Maybe he wants that elizabethan collar off of him, and he's upset that I'm not taking it off for him? Do they "remember" the pee pads after they fully recover? Or do I have to redo pad training. He's such a great dog, and he rarely whined. (The only other time was after getting shots at the vet.) Now he's whining and crying if I'm not right next to him. And he's so sad and confused why I wouldn't let him jump on my lap to give me puppy kisses. (He attempted to do so when I brought him home and ended up yelping and crying because it hurt his wound.) I'm told that it's a small procedure, but this is totally breaking my heart. :unlove: |
Be patient with him. The anesthesia can really make them loopy for a few days after a surgery. You may have to start potty training from the beginning: restricted spaces, sticking to a schedule, but his training should come back to him in a week or two. |

I made sure that he got pain meds, and I've been giving him as directed. He seems okay and follows me around very closely. But I can tell he's uncomfortable because he lies down slowly. Now I try to minimize my movements and stay in one place for as long as I can, because he gets up as soon as I move. And all I want is for him to rest and heal. >.< P.S. Just noticed that I typed descended testicles instead of undescended testicles! It's undescended... |
