Rice Flour substitution I have a recipe for dog pumpkin treats I am going to make and it calls for rice flour. Beside being hard to find around here I am wondering if there is a substitute for something better than rice flour for my recipe. I tried leaving the flour out all together and my batter turned out like cake batter when it is supposed to be like cookie dough. I know, I should have known better, I'm not much of a baker. I searched on line and found I could substitute soy flour but I hate to experiment with my doggie's tummies because they don't get alot of grains in their food. There isn't alot out there on dog nutrition and rice flour in baking. Anyone with any baking expertise for your dogs? I would prefer to not use any whole wheat or corn. |
I would prob try oat flour. You can grind Quaker oats in a food processor to make your own flour. |
I use a gluten free flour called Garbanzo bean/Fava Flour. I get it in the health food section of my grocery store. It is expensive, compared to regular or wheat flour. I needed a grain/gluten free flour to make treats for my pups and this works in what I make. |
I may try the oat flour first since I have some oatmeal. The next batch I am going to try the garbanza bean flour. I saw this in the health food section of the grocery store and just about picked it up instead of the rice flour. I may even taste them to see if I can tell the difference. Thanks for the ideas. |

1 cup of peanut butter and I found my bone cookie cutter at a local kitchen supply store. I have 2, one is 3in and the small is 2 in. I haven't found anything smaller, locally. I also use a tiny heart and star shape that are about 1/2 in. I break the treats into small pieces (pea size) I use them for training....they do love them! If you do Pinterest....I found most of my recipes on there! |
I have a little 1" bone cutter. I think I found it on eBay a few years ago. I never use it tho! |
