No weight gain..... When I took Teeka in to get her staples out from her spay, I had Tatiana's weight checked. Tatiana is a little over 13 weeks and she has not put even put on an ounce in little over a week. I talked to my vet and she examined her again and said she is looking good, but she is very tiny. We discussed how much food and what kind, I feed. I feed her 5-6 times a day, She getting dry and canned food. I also moisten the dry because it takes her so long to chew the dry. She looked at her teeth and agreed with feeding her moist food. She said it sounds right and just to keep doing the same. The vet assistant said she probably will only be barely 2 lbs! This scares me! Shouldn't she be gaining weight? |
Oh wow, Deb. She is a wee little thing, isn't she? I don't have any advice, but surely someone here will be able to help. |
Tatiana is tiny! Reading YT for a couple of years, particularly posts from exhibitors/breeders, it is possible to have a perfectly healthy tiny who doesn't grow much. One exhibitor has a tiny who didn't grow at all until her second year, and then just a bit. Some exhibitor/breeders recommend having BATs and liver function tests done on all Yorkies at 6 months of age to rule out liver shunt. With a pup who doesn't show much growth or weight gain, this would be a good precautionary measure. Many tinies are perfectly healthy, so I don't mean to concern you. :) |

How much does she weigh now? I agree the smaller the more fierce! |
I don't know what to say. Reign was 2.8 pounds when I took him to the vet. Three weeks later he was 2.5. He lost weight! We chalked it up to the change in food from a lower grade to a top brand food. At 4 months he is still 2.5 pounds. He eats very well and I also give him wet. I am hoping he makes at least 4 pounds. He might just put on the weight closer to the 1 year mark. I think it may be the same situation for your baby. |

I can't imagine being smaller that this at 13 weeks! |
If it makes you feel any better.. I did the happy dance when Remy reached 4 lbs. She was so skinny and I did worry. She kept gaining and now at 3 years she is over 5 lbs. I am thinking that is her healthy weight..solid not fat. My guess is your little one will be somewhere between 3 and 4..double 12 week weight and add a pound. That is very small but you are a great yorkie mom and she will be fine:) btw...we do the "yorkie shuffle" in our house. |

Thanks everyone! I did talk to the breeder. She said as long as she is eating, peeing, pooing normally, has a firm tummy, acting like a energetic puppy, that she is just going to stay small. They also told me she has a father and grandfather that were very small, also! They have had some that stayed in the 2 1/2 lb range as an adult. So, I guess we will have to wait and see how she does! :) |
