Can't find a dry food she will eat I have tried: Canine Caviar Iams Blue buffalo Bil Jac I have spent so much trying to find one that she will eat. She won't even eat them with a topper put on it. Any suggestions what to try next? Thanks so much. She eats her canned food 2x a day. I leave the dry food out to eat as she pleases. |
I used to soak Tibbe's kibble in boiling water, cool it and serve it and he loved it. Other times I put water in it, microwave it about 7 minutes, cool and serve. Presently, he likes it barely wetted, just enough to get each piece slightly surface-wet and the center crunchy. I make his treats by putting water in a large plate and microwaving it about 10 minutes on each side and creating kind of a flat, kibble bark, dry it all day and break it up. He will fight you to get that!!! He LOVES it. He'll do any trick just to get a piece of that. Right now he's learning to high-five me and he learned it in about 3 minutes when his treat was one little piece of that after each pawslap! |
I've tried wetting it with water and chicken broth. She still won't eat it. Would you try the Fromm or Wellness small breed puppy next? I'm trying to get away from the chicken ones. |
I feel for you. Same here. Lacey will not eat dry food. I've tried: Canine Caviar Puppy Fromm Puppy Country Naturals Puppy Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier Puppy Royal Canin Mini Puppy She ate the Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier Puppy food for two days and then wouldn't touch it. Would barely sniff any of the others. I've tried toppings, moistening with warm water, adding a little chicken broth. Nothing works. She is currently eating Wellness canned puppy food, but only after I sprinkle Parmesean cheese on top of that. And I thought cats were finicky. |
Here are my choices I"ve limited to Wellness Small breed just for puppy Natural Balance Sweet potato and venison Now fresh grain free small breed Any comments are very welcome. Thanks |

I fed Toki the Now Fresh and she really liked it...we used the regular adult formula but the small breed should be very similar. If I recall correctly, it didn't have a strong odor like Fromm does or the Acana/Orijen so I'm not sure if that would make it more or less appealing to your pup. Maybe try a different protein source to see if she will go for that. We used to have a picky senior yorkie and a beagle who both enjoyed Fromm as well as Acana. Good luck! |
Thanks. I will let you know how it goes. |
Have you tried mixing the canned food with the dry food? |
Yes. She picks out the dry food. |
I rotate my dogs' food. I mostly use either Horizon (Legacy or Amicus) or Fromm. My dogs really seem to love the Fromm Duck and Sweet Potato. They like the bird formulas best (duck, chicken, turkey, etc.). Their LEAST favorite is fish though. I haven't tried the Fromm Game Bird yet, but I bet my dogs would love it! I plan to try it soon. |
I went through something similar with Cooper. The breeder had him on Royal Canine and he stopped eating it. Then I tried Blue Buffalo, Merricks and Taste of the Wild, and he turned his nose up at it. A co-worker suggested I try the Wellness small breed puppy food, and Cooper LOVED it. We are now on our second bag. Good luck to you! |
There is nothing wrong withfeeding canned. There is an old wives tale that they need the kibble for their teeth but they dont you have to brush teeth whether they eat canned or dry |
We have a couple stores in our area that offer trial bags free. You might ask around your area ! |
You're close to Woodlands aren't you, Michelle? Have you checked with a Natural Pawz store? They are on the list of retailers for the Fromm. They might have a bigger selection of quality foods. |
