Canine caviar question Hi everyone! I am new here but have always loved coming to this forum because everyone has such good information and advice! I have a 4 year old yorkie who had intestinal problems as a puppy and was given Hills W/D every time she was sick and it seemed to help so I decided to keep her on it! She has now been on it consecutively for about 3 1/2 years and I had no idea that it wasn't that great of a food!!! I think I have decided on giving canine caviar a shot because it is not much more expensive than what I am already paying for the W/D! And it's soo much better for her! She poops a whole lot, has a ton of itchiness around her face and licks her paws to death! My question is which flavor would someone recommend for her in both kibble and canned (I mix them together)? I am also getting another yorkie puppy in a few weeks and want to put him on the canine caviar as well. Should I get the actual puppy food or would the ALS be okay for him? Also, I would want to mix dry and wet food for him too! Is it ok to give him the canned food with his food since there is no specific canned puppy food? Sorry this was so long winded! I had no idea that my Roxy wasn't getting very good food this whole time and want to change that for her! And start the puppy off right! Thanks in advance for any comments and suggestions!!! |
CC is ALS (all life stages), so it should be fine for your pup. Grain free would be best, esp if your girl is itching around her face & gnawing @ her paws. I have 2 w/sensitive tummies & they both do very well on grain free versions of CC. They loved Open Sky & currently enjoying Wilderness for dinner...want to try the Buffalo next, once it comes out. I haven't tried the CC canned, but they are for supplemental feedings only. So as a topper, it would be a good source of moisture added to the kibble. Mine get Weruva. |
Thank you sooo much for responding! So do you think it would be alright to use the canned 50/50 with the kibble or get another canned like you do? I have heard great things about weruva! Thanks again! |
I feed them weruva for breakfast (mixed w/honest kitchen) not as a topper for kibble, only bc mine will scarf the kibble down w/out chewing. They get CC kibble for dinner, they eat it fine w/out any toppers. I guess it will come down to how your's do on the food.;) I just wanted to get more moisture in their diet bc 2 of mine have struvite crystals...so moisture is key to getting rid of them. |

Hi! I have been feeding the grain free Canine Caviar for about 7 1/2 months now. Riley absoutely Loves it and that makes me Happy!! I feed each formula for just short of 3 months to make sure they agreed with him, and right now, I am switching formulas daily between the Wilderness, Open Sky and Wild Ocean. I bought a bunch of the 1lb bags at a store near me. I always do the same formula for breakfast and dinner, but every day has been a different formula! I also bought several of the cans and I mix about a teaspoon of wet canned into his kibble. I also bought a bag of the Synergy and put about a teaspoon of that... He goes Nuts for his meals!! :D |
Thank you all so much for the information! I was also wondering about mixing in the synergy with the kibble! Unfortunately I cannot find anywhere near me that sells CC so I am trying to find the best price online now! Thanks again! |

I would try www.chewy.com or I think there is another: www.petfoodstation.com I ordered from chewy.com when I first started feeding it. I haven't ordered from the petfoodstation but know others who have. They sell the smaller 4lb bags there. |
I put our Princess Sophie on the CC Puppy food getting her started here at home and she's doing great on it! She's growing very well and our Vet is very pleased with how she is coming along. She actually did research on this particular food because it was one she was not familiar with and just wanted to be sure, for herself, that it was a good dog food! Sophie loves it and we do too (just not the same way - LOL)!!:D |
[QUOTE=RileyDC;4163535]Hi! . I also bought a bag of the Synergy and put about a teaspoon of that... Is Synergy by Natural Balance and is it dry food? |

Hi There, I feed both my girls CC grain free open sky & Venison kibble. So far it has been great. One of my girls has allergies and this food is really good for her. I used the canned duck and turkey when they were puppies but no longer do I love this food. |

So far so good!! |
I ordered the Synergy! OMG Peanut is in love with it! I put some in a bowl and threw some water over it- let it sit for ˝ hour. Then it was nice and soft, I put it in a sandwich baggie and through it in the fridge. I feed Peanut in the morning and evening he gets 1/8 of a cup each time I throw a little of the Synergy in there and he licks his bowl clean… well he will usually eat all the Synergy and then go back and eat his kibble!! |
We love CC here too! Have tried Open Sky (Duck) and Wilderness (Venison). They love both! I also add about a tablespoon of the CC canned Turkey as a topper sometimes. I break out a can for the boys about once every 2 weeks. |

I was googling CC and came up with a lawsuit for them adding SHARK PARTS to the food    |

They were called “Great white chews” supposedly they were from Thresher Sharks- they took the cartilage from them. I don’t see that they sell these anymore… The shark wasn't used in any food. |
Looks like Best BB sells them Chews Wisely: Limited Time Savings on Our Organic Fish Chews | Best Bully Sticks Healthy Dog Blog |
My little Dolly was very itching so I put her on CC Open Sky, the itching has stopped I love this CC |

Foxy did so well on the sample bag of Wilderness, that we just ordered more..She is doing great and still loves it! Thanks to RileyDC for recommending it.. |
Has anyone tried buffalo canine caviar or is it too high in fat and protein? Mine has done really well on venison but looking to try a different protein. I was thinking duck but she's allergic to chicken. I may be crazy but makes me scared to try duck lol. So maybe buffalo. But she does wonderful on venison. She's just been on it for nine months. She has food allergies and ibd and is doing great because of canine caviar. |

Mine all did well on the individual foods by itself, so I just thought I'd mashup the honest kitchen & weruva. When I say well, their poopies are nicely formed & not soft at all. I don't think they should only have ONE food, I want my guys to eat a variety of different foods so they can get vital nutrients from them. Mine have been eating grain free kibble ever since they were pups for both meals & 2 of them had struvite crystals. The most important factor was to liquefy the diet. So I had to incorporate canned food for 1 meal (since canned food is higher in fat & protein) & I moisten the kibble w/hot water for the other. Momo just had his re-check & he's struvite crystal free.:D I've also tried premade raw, frozen & freeze dried. Mimi & Turbo did well on it, but Momo & Princess couldn't handle the higher fat content. Their poopie was soft. So it really comes down to how your individual dog does on the food. Pincess had colitis b4, so she needs to be on a strict low fat, high fiber diet. That's why I chose honest kitchen. I really wanted to avoid potatoes bc she's also yeasty (had skin cytology done to confirm this), but I figured THK uses organic human grade ingredients & sweet potato was better than potato loll. That's why I LOVE CC, no potatoes! |
