HELP - Luca is eating kitty litter... I have found hunks of kitty litter (and yes - they usually have poop in them) laying around the apartment lately. It has to be Luca doing it. He must be getting them out of the litter box and carrying them in his mouth to our spare bedroom. Sometimes there are spots with just litter and sometimes poop covered in litter. I am not sure if he is actually eating it, or not. Will kitty litter hurt him and how do I stop this??? The only thing I can think of is to get some sort of small table or stool to put kitty's litter box on, so Luca can't reach it. Any other suggestions? |
Oh yess, the old litter box. My father (almost 80) calls it a big doggie lunch box! Yes you should put if up or what we have is a cat door to the basement. The doggie's love those kitty treats! I don't know about the kitty litter, maybe someone else does. Good luck! Jeanne |

chances are your Luca is smelling the cat food in the droppings and that's what he's after. I had to keep the litter box sifted all the time, or Pip would go in it looking for 'snacks':eek: ! Now there's no kitty anymore, so there's one less thing to worry about keeping my little darling out of!:p |
Yes the litty litter can make him sick! And if it's clumping litter, it can be worse. My poodle used to do that when we had a cat. The poo - well, they just love that stuff!!!:eek: The vet told me to put it somewhere where the dog couldn't get it. I put it in the bathtub because Indy was too small to jump into the tub. |
This is now my problem! Grayson has discovered my cats box and I have seen him sticking his head in but not yet pull out a crunchy treat! AHHH any advice would be helpful!:confused: :eek: |
Clumping cat litter will cause obstruction if enough is swallowed, so it's important that pets don't eat it. Other types of litter can't be healthy either. I use a low gate (actually wire shelving) across the entrance to where the litterbox is so the kitties jump over but the doggies can't. If you put it up on something so the dogs can't reach you have to be careful they're not able to tip it over, but that or putting it somewhere like the bathtub are other options. |
