Wellness variation? I started feeding Wellness Small Breed kibble over a month ago, having slowly converted from Blue Buffalo chicken and rice small breed kibble. I tried this as the formula is similar and it comes in smaller bags. The BB larger bags tended to go stale as it lasts so long. Both foods he did well on. However when I got a new bag of the same Wellness he did not want to eat it. I had to mix with BB canned chicken dinner that I had in the house. He also seems quiet and not his usual self, but does eat the mixture and poops/ pees as usual. After all that........, has anyone found that just getting a new bag of the same food affects their dog? Wellness did not help, and suggested I get another new bag in exchange! Or should I just go back to the BB (slowly of course) and throw away the end of the bag when it seems old? Thank you. |
I started my grandbaby on BB and he started off well them I guess it started to get stale so he woulnt eat for days. I made the transition to wellness and he loves it, he is 15 mos today and he has had all the wellness foods so far and eats every bag until the last drop! With BB he started picking the black things out to not eating it at all. I still give him the BB treats: dental chews, and the puppy banana/yogurt biscuits but he does very well on wellness. I think its just the BB dry/wet food. My baby was the same way until i stop buying it I have no problem with him eating now. good luck to you and your baby:) |
I don't buy the Wellness small bites. I have a 4 lb and 7 lb dog. I buy the 6lb of Super5mix and switch up the favors. I don't do wet at all. |
The wide variety of treatments causes like Treatment can mean hanging out talking to patients about their emotional and physical problems, analyzing their exercise and dieting habits..... |
Wellness Alfred, I do not understand? |
Mine have been on the BB small bites until I read all the complaints about BB. Switched them a couple of times and settled back to Royal Cannine. Just found out it was bought out by Merricks. I am going crazy on this food thing. They just will not even hardly touch the RC unless they are starving. I give them kibble in the morning and mix with canned at night. I am at a place of not knowing what to do. My vet does not agree with feeding raw and I am scared of it too. Just don't know what to do. Hope yours works out. I fed Welliness along time ago but then heard alot about them too. Ugh!!! |
Food I feel your frustration too. In the past I have been very happy with BB small bites (except i believed the big bag goes stale) and have not heard bad things about it? I read here that Canine Caviar is great food but have not tried it. Also Stella and Chewy's raw is also liked here. But like you, I do not like the raw idea. I took the last Wellness back and am feeding BB canned for now until he gets over this little upset. He seems back to normal on the canned. Then I think I will try BB kibble again, unless I hear it is bad food. Why is dog food such a pain!! What are we to do? Boo hoo! |
I know, its a pain. I read where they need canned not just kibble alone. The BB makes Kayla so gassy its horrible. If you can bring up the complaints BB has had. Scary. I think its like 185 complaints. I am feeding them Innovia right now with the RC, but they are not so heped up on it either. I have a couple that are small. Three and four lbs. and they need to eat in the mornings. I could just pull my hair out. I don't trust any of these commercial companies and they said BB would not even answer questions where some of their foods come from. Like their chicken. |
Bb food I just read the complaints on BB and am shocked. BB has been on the 'good' list in many places and I felt secure until now. Whatever food one chooses there seem to be complaints from some people. Now I don't know what to do! It seems as soon as a food is lauded, it becomes 'bad' after a while with recalls or reports of sick dogs?? He does like the BB canned but I really do not know what to buy for kibble now. Changing foods is a pain and I dread feeding a new food. Ah well, I remain dazed and confused! |
I have 3 yorkies, and 1 min. schnauzer. (Lexi) I had noticed Lexi was drinking alot of water which she has finally stopped after stopping the BB. Isn't that scary how many dogs have even died? I have done everything I know to do. Believe me, we give ours, or try, to give them the best of everything. I was even paying 2.15 a can for Ornanix and they would not eat it. ???? What do your do? |

BB Yes the same here, my dog was fine with BB food for years and I thought it was good food. At the end of the last bag he would not eat, so I got Wellness that seemed similar. He was fine on that for a month and then with the new bag of W he would not eat and got an upset tummy. Perhaps he just has a minor upset and it is nothing to do with the food???? I will just go easy for a bit on soft food and think what to do later. ????????? (I did get comprehensive tests and all was well BTW.) This dog food question is really frustrating. |
I think you'll find some bad reviews of any food out there. Having said that, I would still try to find one that has the least amount of negative reviews. The store I buy from recommends Horizon foods (Horizon Legacy, Amicus, Pulsar) and also Fromm foods. My dogs have done well on Legacy and Amicus and they also like Fromm. I rotate so they get variety. By the way, Horizon is a small Canadian company that makes their foods in their own facility using locally sourced ingredients. |

dog food Sganow: Thank you, it is tough to get a food that is never criticized or recalled these days. Dogs have different tastes too and what works for one does not for another. Thanks for the food suggestions, I will look at them. Certainly a small company is better that the large ones that import food items from different sources. TxVicki: Its either in the wrong thread or???? LOL! |
