15 weeks old, 3.9lbs how much food? Hello there new to the forum and already found so much useful tips. My question is a little more centered on my Puppy... Buddy is a beautiful 15 weeks old pup and weight 3.96lbs already. I am worried I give him too much to eat. I have so far followed the instructions on the food box but now I start to realize that those instructions might not be for xxs dogs and when they talk about 4lbs puppy they might be talking about 4lbs Labrador Puppy... Buddy is healthy but was weighing 2.2 lbs when he was 10 weeks and is now almost 4 after 5 weeks! I might worry too much but any advise is good to take. Thanks for your help |
Generally a puppy will not overeat. They need the extra food while they are growing. Puppies usually burn a lot of energy/calories until about 8 months to 1 year. There are always exceptions to the rules. I would go by body appearance rather than the scale. If you cannot feel Buddy's ribs when gently squeezing his torso, then he might be putting on a little too much weight. The charts on food bags apply to all breeds. A 4lb Yorkie would need the same as a 4lb lab. The charts tend to estimate a little bit more than I would feed an adult however. |
Thanks! Can feel his ribs fine. He has a big belly but you are right he is a puppy after all. thanks again for quick answer |
I free feed dry food to all of my furbuts, but they do not over eat and stay nice and trim...congrats on your little one |
I always check for healthy, firm poops. Enough going in makes enough coming out! |
