Diagnosed with Kidney Disease I have not been posting for a while, just been so very busy with my 2 little 3 lbs of love yorkies here. They are now 13 & 15 yrs old, one blind with PRA 2 yrs ago and younger 1 yr. with glaucoma, after one eye was removed the other got a cataract has been blind a year, both adapted well to blindness and get around very well . They were both doing ok as seniors until they both got sick 5 months ago, got them tested, results were early kidney disease in oldest and 2nd stage KD in younger. They are sisters, same parents, 2 yrs apart litter. Their eye problems were inherited from their parents who were not tested for eye problems before breeding. I came here to see how others handle KD as I belong to an online group and in search of anything that would help me to keep them more comfortable. They have been on a bought special food plan for 3 months, now I'm changing it to home cooked special foods as they were not gaining weight. I've learned a lot from the Canine KD group and wanted to get the word out that if your furbaby has been diagnosed with KD, search out the Facebook page of Canine Kidney Disease group, lots of information & support there. Not many have little 3 lb. yorkies but I'm doing all I can for them to sustain their lives in comfort as long as I can. They are not at the stage for Sub-Q fluids yet, but that could be a future issue. Would like to hear from those who have been thru kidney disease with their yorkies and any support would be greatly appreciated. I know the end will come eventually, considering their senior ages, but I'm doing all I can to help them and keep them comfortable. |
Lord bless you for being such a wonderful caring human being to keep them as safe and comfortable as they are. They are very lucky as I am sure you know you are very lucky to have them in your life. My prayers to your lils and you :hands: |

I also have a little poodle girl that's blind from glaucoma. She had one eye completely removed and a year later, an ablation in the remaining eye. Diana and the Scoobster |
