Feeding I read somewhere that once the puppy is 6 months old it is okay to feed them once a day? Is this true? Also, what kind of chew toys are good? I know rawhide is dagerous. thanks |
I've never heard that, I've read that up to 10 months of age feed them 3-4 small meals a day, then after 10 months two meals a day. With Yorkies they are so tiny if they don't eat there's a increased risk of hypoglycemia....I would offer food twice a day to your dog. Regarding chew toys, there's product called Nylabone which I've heard is good. My pup prefers to chew on softer toys like stuffed toys, balls and rope bones. |
My hailey loves her rope bone. she takes it with her everywhere. |
Maybe they meant serving food just once a day? I feed Mojo 2 times a day and just the recommended amount... |
I understand that you should NEVER feed a small dog once a day.........after 6 months twice a day is fine, or you can free feed if your yorkie has self control over amount consumed. Feeding once a day does not keep blood sugar levels stable, and furthermore will cause a dog to gorge itself during its only feeding, producing digestive problems................. :( |
Also regarding chew toys, RAWHIDE is NEVER a good idea..........it's horrible on their digestion and can cause serious abdominal problems. Try the Edible Nylabones, they come in a variety of flavors and are completely digestible, Gracie loves the BACON flavored ones. They are called NYLABONE HEALTHY EDIBLES and are avail at pet stores and walmart :) |
