He is not against the chickpeas / garbanzo beans at all. I was also giving Buster chickpeas/garbanzo beans as a treat. He just wanted me to wait until we got the fungus under control more before feeding kibble with garbanzo beans. We are on the Amicus with lentils for now. I honestly can't remember exactly why he said to wait on the garbanzo beans as I was absorbing so much information at the time. I am going to speak or email Marc and clarify the garbanzo bean issue. He really likes all the Horizon products.
Nancy's info made me reconsider using CET toothpaste but I plan on using a lot less. I read another thread on YT about fluoride in our toothpaste. We should use less than a tiny pea size of any fluoridated toothpaste for us so it seems logical to do the same for Buster as well. I was giving him more because his tongue is so fast I was never sure if it was making it past his tongue to his teeth. So I was giving him more than I should. I am concerned about the possible health issues from plaque build up and tooth loss as well.

I did a lot of research on 'beans' in general bc 3 of mine have a higher then normal pH. Around 8, & dogs should be 'acidic', around 5-6.5. These beans are acidic & lowers the pH (This list is for people, but it pretty much works the same for dogs, so I wouldn't give the 'milk' form): Almond Milk, Black Beans, Chick Peas, Green Peas, Kidney Beans, Lentils, Pinto Beans, Red Beans, Rice Milk, Soy Beans, Soy Milk, White Beans

So I don't think he's saying not to use the chickpeas/ lentils, he put a question mark, probably meaning that dogs will get more benefit & nutrition from a 'meat' source which is acidic also.

He had not heard of Canine Caviar but I showed him the ingredients and he was interested in the kibble and said it was good. He did want me to wait to feed the Canine Caviar until after we had the fungus under control because of the garbanzo beans.)

chickpeas & garbanzo beans are the Same thing (or aren't they...?) so why would he want her wait to feed the Canine Caviar because of the garbanzo beans but recommend the Nutrisca and Zignature (which both have chickpeas...) :confused:

I was just confused because in that case he should have also wanted to wait to feed the Zignature and Nutrisca as well...

All I know is Riley has had Zero issues with yeasty ears and tummy since switching to the CC.

Trying to wrack my brain for what he said LOL. I think he recommended those brands because they all did not contain potato or tapioca etc as opposed to other brands I had been feeding like the Now, Honest Kitchen Verve, and I was looking into the Annamet Lean because of the low fat because I am trying to get the weight off of Buster. I brought in copies of the ingredients and analysis of all the food I had fed Buster in the last 3 years to get an idea about good and bad (or less good) ingredients.

He liked around 30 or so, upper 20s to low 30s.

He wasn't so fond of the foods with very high protein numbers, like EVO. I also asked about Orijen and Acana and he seemed pretty indifferent about the company. He stated that Champion is a large Canadian company and that their foods are popular but he has no relationship with that company and doesn't personally use their foods. His top recommendations were #1 Horizon, #2 Fromm, and then he also mentioned Pure Vita as a food to maybe add to my rotation.

I say not all protein is created equally. Some proteins are more digestible than others. A food high in protein due to a lot of corn or chicken (specially by product) meal will be less absorbed and less digested. A food high in protein due to more meat and, in this case red lentils and garbanzo beans, will take better. I don't like to generalize, so I analyze each and every case separately.

I sure do! :D I know the owner and can vouch that 98% of what is ON the bag is IN the bag. That's another huge issue we have with some pet food manufacturers: AAFCO allows for up to 40% of what goes ON the bag not to be IN the bag. Distribution issues as well as sourcing and seasonal products are understandable. I have a 10% tolerance due to that (maybe the blueberry is out of season, so they use blackberry). I have tried to get commitment letters from manufacturers in that respect, and only a handful replied positively:

Evangers, Great Life, K9 Naturals, Stella and Chewies, Primal, Precise, NutriSource, Horizon, Fromm, Great Life.

I'll actually open another Discussion thread to talk about this research.
