What do you feed your yorkie? Hello everyone, I was just wondering what do you feed your little ones? I feed my babies, Reese & Bella Royal Canin. I would like to switch them to a better high-quality food. Recently, Reese (4 years old) went to his vet for a check-up. Reese is a pretty big yorkie. However, I could feel all of his bones whenever I cuddle or rub him. His tests came back normal - no parasites or giardia. He's completely healthy. His weight is 9 lbs and he's the leaner side. Reese is a picky eater. He will not eat till he's straving. Whenever I put food on his bowl, he'll just smell it then walk away. His vet recommended Orijen and would like to hear your opinion, thoughts or experiences with that brand of food or whatever type of brand you feed your yorkie. Thank you! |
I have heard goods things about that brand. I have never used it because I can't get it locally. I home cook for my girls. :) |
I've heard and read good things about Orijen. I use Fromm. My pups eat fromm as if they are eating real table food. Lol. I will continue with Fromm as long as they enjoy it. |
I feed ZoE Royal Canin. She does great on it! |
We just started foxy on evo turkey and chicken...so far so good |
Orijen is a Great food... It was a little too Rich for Riley. I feed Canine Caviar... |
I fed R n R Royal Canin but they quit liking it. Now they are on Halo Spots Stew salmon variety....they LOVE it. Im thinking about trying Canine Caviar because of the rave reviews on here...my Ruby has the itchies and im hoping CC will help w that. |
My girls were on Royal Canine but I switched to Life's Abundance which is shipped. Not sold in stores. They love it and less issues with upset stomach or digestion issues. Better quality has made the difference. You can review online and decide when you need it at your door. Happy with Life's Abundance !!!! |

Galen is eating California Natural puppy Lamb |
I have never tried it but heard Oirjen is a very good food. I recently switched from Merricks to Holistic Select, It's very small kibble and the love it! I also use wellness 95% chicken, grain free(canned) as a topper. |
I have tried tons of kibble. Jada was on Iams when we adopted her, I switched her to Science Diet shortly after. She has itching really bad and went through about 5 more changes. I found out by accident, when she was having tummy issues that chicken is a trigger for her allergies so I switched to LID diet about 2 years ago. I had her on Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison and she was doing pretty good on it. They had a recall due to it being produced in a Diamond owned plant. I switched to California Natural Sweet Pot and Venison about a year ago...not once since this switch, has she had a tummy issue or flare of her allergies. |
I feed her Royal Canin Calm. I put homemade chicken broth over it. She eats it up.. |
Sure, Orijen would be a nice food to try for him...they have a few different flavors to try and I hope one works for your kiddo. I feed pre-made raw - mostly Primal, but also have used Natures Variety, Stella and Chewys, Bravo, and a few other freeze dried types (for travel). |
Toki is 1/2 way through a bag of the Orijen Regional Red and is doing great on it. I didn't really switch her over gradually (although I do feed her a smaller amount) and we have not had a single issue with gas or loose stools. I'll see how she's doing after a couple of bags to decide whether we'll stick with it or go back to Fromm. She used to get 4 tbsp 2x a day of the Fromm and now gets 3 tbsp 2x a day of the Orijen and is maintaining her weight and still enthusiastic at meals. I'd definitely recommend Acana/Orijen and also Fromm. Fromm is more reasonably priced than Orijen and a brand that I always have in our rotation. It is also very palatable and has smaller kibble sizes. My sister's senior yorkie was never a great eater but LOVED Acana's Regional line. I know you can buy sample bags of the Acana/Orijen and most pet stores that sell Fromm will be able to get you free samples (we fed mostly from their grain-free choices and Toki's favorite was the Gamebird...so I think anyway :) ) |
