Penis bone???
 
Ruger tends to have accidents, so sometimes I will use a "tinkle belt" on him. Seems to work and after a few minutes it doesn't seem to bother him.

Anyway, my girlfriend told her vet about this and the vet said she doesn't recomend these belts. Claimed there's a bone in the dog's penis that can be forced out of alignment and harm the dog if you use these belts.

First, I've never heard of such a thing and I'm wondering about this vet's credentials. Second, the belt is very soft and isn't really tight enough to do him any harm, at least IMHO.

Has anybody heard of such a thing, especially the part about the penis bone?

Yes there is a home. Not sure what a tinkle belt is. If its a belly band then it is fine to use as long as it is properly fitting.

I'll be damned. I just did a Google search and most mammals do have a bone there. A baculum? You learn something new everyday. :D

Yes, dogs have a penis bone (os penis).
Yes, it can break.
No, belly bands should not misalign a bone.
My boy always wears one bc he has a bladder defect.

Buc23 - a belly band is like a diaper for male dogs - only it goes around their "waist" and not their behind. Some people who have intact male dogs use them as intact males tend to "mark" their territory.

My little one hasn't been intact since he was 6months old and he is a terrible marker. The belly band is the only thing that keeps us welcome at my parents house!

Like others have said... yes, a dog's penis has a bone and no, a belly band won't misalign the bone unless you tie it very tightly. This isn't a good idea for many reasons, so just make sure that belly band is comfortable for the dog and you should be fine :)

I have a couple of them but have Never had to use them. I always forget I have them... What do most people do? Do you place a feminine napkin in them and change it out if they go in it?? If you do this then when if comes to ordering is it best to order a little bit big so a napkin will fit?

I order to size and use the slim feminin napkins, there's a bit of adjustment room on them. If they get really wet, you may have a mess, but I check my boy regularly and just use a baby wipe for inbetween clean ups.

I just started using belly bands on Brody and not having any sneaky pee spots around is AWESOME! My house is soooo much cleaner and while at first he HATED the belly band, he has grown to accept it. It's been 2 weeks now that we started and I wish I had done this years ago. He's a sneaky marker and just spritz's whenever he feels like it . . .:rolleyes:

I use a thin maxi and cut it in half and place in his belly band for any drips that he tries to STILL do. He'll come sneaking out from the bathroom or our bedroom and you just know he tried to mark by the look on his face . . .and we just say to him . . ."did you get that warm fuzzy feeling again?" :p

I also use a baby wipe to freshen him up in between outside potty and returning to his belly band.

Actually using the urinary incontinence pads are the best to use, as it wicks away the urine from the skin.

What section do they sell them in? Like somewhere at Target or CVS, Where they sell the adult diapers section?? Do they need to be cut down or so they come small enough?

I also use the slim feminine napkins inside them. I cut one in half and just use half of it but when I take him back outside, which I still do frequently for him to empty his bladder on my Mothers garden :D, I take the belly band off and change out the napkin half. That way it doesn't get wet and nasty. :eek:

I think she is talking about the Poise pads, I would believe they'd be in the adult diaper section and most likely both Target and CVS would carry them. I haven't looked into them yet because he's doing fine with the little drips here and there on the thin stayfree maxi pad (which I cut in half) which has worked good thus far and keeps him dry.

I don't have a male, but LOL I woke up this morning and wondered why I had a dream last night that included photos of men with tatoos on their penis. Then I remembered having a conversation with someone about tatoos (but not on you know what) then this morning I see the title of the thread which I saw all day yesterday every time I scanned the list of forums, because it was always on the top. So I am pretty sure I know why I had that dream last night, I though this would give you a laugh.

On a side note when we have meetups inside the males are all required to wear belly bands and when my friends come over with their dogs they, the dogs that is, almost always wear either a diaper or a belly band.

Yes they are located in the adult diaper section.

They different brands. I have used the Poise Brand. I do have cut in them half.
I like these better because they are made for urine. The Maxi Pads are OK, but the Poise Brands holds the urine better.

I have never had to use them.... and forget I even have them.
I always have one in a pocket of his Kwigy-Bo bag. I would
definitely feel more at ease though going over to a new friend's
place if he had one on. You just never know.
