bloated belly just gas Hello again everyone! Man, am I loving this site! I don't think I'm ever going to run out of questions. My little Jake's belly has seem to grown a lot in the last 3 days. It's really hard and round and it's kind of worrying me. Almost like it's bloated. He has been wormed. No change in his food. He is also eating well and is going to the potty normally and seems to feel fine. I have notice he's passing gas more. Could this be all....just a belly full of gas? Is there anything I can do to help it? |
That's a good question Megan. I would wonder that as well. Have you changed his diet recently? Check to see if you are feeding a high quality food. Sometimes lesser quality food can cause gas and it could be painful at some point. Have you noticed your puppy "tooting"? Best advice I could give is when in doubt, head to the vet. Also there are others on this site that have way more knowledge than I do with yorkies and may be able to give you other recommendations. Hold tight for more advice or just call the vet. Good luck, I hope and pray it isn't anything terrible. |
Since he's only around 9 weeks old, I would get him to the Vet. right away. Don't mess around with babies this young. He could still have some type of worm or his food could be causing some problems. I wouldn't be guessing at this tender age. ;) |
There is actually a life threatening situation that can occur called bloat it is usually more with bigger dogs but I have in my time on here heard of a yorkie dying of it so I thought it needed to be mentioned so get to the vet if it continues. I would feed chicken and rice and give a little yogurt. You could add probotics to the diet and it would help with this |
yes. I have noticed today and yesterday that I can smell him passing gas. And he is going to the potty and it isn't too soft or too hard so I think it's normal. I am feeding him pedigree puppy care which was what the breeder had him on. I know that it's not the best brand so I really need to find something new and start transitioning him. |
When you do change food do it gradually or you will be back with him having stomach issues |
If this is a young pup, and it sounds like it is - you gotta get to the bet. Bloated abdomen can be indicative of something life threatening...and it's best to make sure that it's not. If it turns out to be diet related, get him off of his current food; bloating and gas is very uncomfy and it means (just like for us humans) there is an ingred that is irritating the GI system, and it's best to avoid it. Did you switch to a new food recently, btw? |
