Why is my puppy trembling? After we had a groomers visit to our house, my darling 4 month old Cashmere started trembling and shaking with no apparent reason. Is he stressed out from the time the groomer gave him a haircut? Is he cold? Is there a health concern? Please, help. |
Could be he's cold, did she dry him thoroughly? Could be he's nervous, and it could be he's suffering from hypoglycemia, sometimes when they get really worked up they use all their available energy and get low blood sugar. Give him a nice treat to reward him for being so good! If he won’t eat, I’d try rubbing some karo syrup on the roof of his mouth, and trying the food again in 10 minutes. You could also try a sweater and see if that helps. |

Cold, fear, pain.....and initially, hypoglycemia. The hypoglycemia will continue to spirial downhill and then go to staggering, lethargy, vomiting, stupor, seizure and coma....hypoglycemia does NOT cure itself....you have to give something to bring sugar level up in the bloodstream, so if he is trembling, it doesnt get any worse, and it stops after awhile all by itself, it isnt hypoglycemia. That leaves cold, fear, or pain. |
Thank you gals for your advice. I should have mentioned that a couple weeks passed after the grooming by now. Yes, he did get a lot of hair cut off since it was impossible to brush the knots out. I did try a sweater and a fur blanket. It helps but only for a short while. Is that stress? I would rule out the hypoglycemia, there is no problem with his appetite. |

Ruger likes to get bathed, but right after he often shivers quite a bit. If I wrap him in a towel and hold him he stops after a bit, so I have to assume he's cold. I would try this next time and see if your baby calms down. Ruger is almost 4 years old, but at 4 months it definitely could be nerves. |
Did they shave his bum ? if yes , it could be irritation from that. Some dogs don't do well with having the area around their anus too short as the short hair pokes them & although you may not see an irritation there , it drives them nuts. I hope your baby is feeling better by now. |
Yes, thanks you for your sweet concern. He is feeling better. Someone suggested to us that shivering could be a result of poor excersise. I was probably overprotective cuddling him with blankets and hugging him close. It turns out, a good run around the house and a couple of up and downs the staircase really helped. I will keep in mind your comment about shaving that might make him uncomfortable. Thanks a lot. |
