Help!! My Yorkie won't stop itching! hi everyone, My boyfriend and I are trying to change my yorkie Baxter to a healthier brand of food. He is was eating Beneful (which he is 6 years old and has been eating since I got him when he was 6 months old). Ever since he started eating this new food, he wont stop itching. Is he having an allergic reaction to the healthier food?? Should I put him back on the food that everyone keeps saying is the worst food on the market?? Please help!! Thanks! Colby |

We are going through food trials with Alfie as he has been scratching and biting so much he draws blood, if your dog has any sensitivities at all be very careful about food changes and make sure there are not lots of little people snacks going on too. The more variety of food they are getting the harder it is to identify the trigger, proper food trials take 12 weeks only giving them one food, nothing else, no treats, no scraps. Read up on the forums here, look for grain free foods or hypoallergenic and get your vets advice really quick too. Good luck. |

What did you switch him to, and what are the ingredients. If its the food change causing it, I would stop that food for sure. |

First what you need to do is compare the label of the old food to the new food. What ingreds are new / different? Then, find another food of the quality you prefer that is WITHOUT those new ingredients. Something is def irritating him and the sooner the better you get him off of those ingreds. |

It may not be safe to feed Beneful snopes.com: Beneful Dog Food but switching from one brand of dog food to another can take awhile when done the right way, and that is to very slowly decrease one while adding that amount of the new. However :D you could also take all the guesswork out of "what is he really eating" and what is it that he's allergic to, by just home cooking. ;) Just another idea! Don't bark at me! :animal36 |
