White inside can lining? I noticed my cat's Halo canned food has a white inside can lining. :hellokitty: What does that mean? Are there any dog canned foods that have it? Maybe that would help solve the "mystery" of who manufactures Halo food. I do not feed Halo. Currently finishing a bag of CC Open Sky. |
I picked up a can of Science Diet to add to the CC dry puppy food to encourage her to eat a little more and the inside of the can is NOT WHITE. Hope that helps. I wanted to buy the CC canned food but I would have had to order a case when I only want a can or two. Does that make me bad?? |
Maybe its used as a sealer for freshness. I never saw or heard of that. The can should have a customer service number on it. They would know best. |

I have a few stores around me that sell singles cans of Canine Caviar otherwise I would not be ordering a case... |
Do you mean like colored, coated, painted white ? if yes then I would not buy it again. I heard a few months ago, I believe on the news about Progresso vs Cambels & they were talking about toxicity of the cans & Progresso was the worst because of the can lining & it is white. Something to look into for sure. |
The white lining is a thin plastic film that keeps the product from contacting the metal. Without it, the acidity of the product could cause the can to corrode and the product will spoil. Canned vegetables are put into the can raw, and then the can is sealed and heated up to cook the product. But, it's at a low enough temperature that the lining doesn't melt. However, if you bake something at 300 degrees or whatever, this will probably melt the lining and infuse it into whatever you're baking. So, I wouldn't use these cans for baking. |
The problem is that most of that lining contains BPA which was shown to cause immunity problems among other things...that's why it's never a good idea to heat cans, better pour the content in a plate and heat it like that. |
