How about Rawhide treats? Recently I heard that those are not good for dogs, as I was told in the long run they can cause health issues. Do you give those to your pups? |
I believe they are a choking hazard and not fully digestible. :( |
No, I won't give any kind of hide treats or chews to a small dog. They harbor bacteria, are a choking hazard, and can cause intestinal blockages. |
That pretty much sums up what I heard :) No more of those for my baby! We did buy something similar which was just dehydrated beef tendon. |
They cause blockages because they are not digestible I would stay very very far from them. |
What about dehydrated tendons? Anyone gives those? My puppy is in crazy chewing stage, so I'd like to keep him occupied :) |
We never give any kind of rawhide treats to our dogs. Not even anything that is similar to rawhides. |
I give Merrick Bully sticks, they are made of tendons, and I guess you could say they are dehydrated, they use no preservatives. They are made in the USA and are 100% digestible, and they’ve never had a recall on their bully sticks, I’ve been using them for about 6 years without any problems. I do supervise them; any chewing stick can cause a throat obstruction should your dog decide to swallow the whole thing, so I throw them out when they are about 3 inches long. Bully sticks will not cause intestinal obstructions, and raw hides and greenies can cause intestinal obstructions, because they are NOT 100% digestible. Lots of people here give the nonedible type of chewing sticks and their dogs like them, but mine don’t. I really believe a dog has an innate need to chew, and Merrick Bully Sticks are one of the safer alternatives. Please don’t buy any food made in China, they don’t seem to have the same standards as the USA yet. Also, be careful about some chewing sticks that contain too much water and they are more of a “food” than a chewing stick. If your dog eats more than an inch a day, that’s too much. |
I would give bullysticks they are 100% digestible. We get ours from bestbullysticks.com |
