My tip for switching food... I've always hesitated on posting this but my girlfriend just did this with her 3 Shepherds and it worked for her. I have done this several times with my many dogs throughout the years and it works for me, its just another suggestion for switchers... When I plan to switch I put my pups on boiled/drained/rinsed groundbeef or chicken and rice and carrots for 3 days then start adding new kibble a bit at a time till all kibble! Works for me no runs or problems. Again this has worked for my pups I'm not saying it will work for all, just thought I would share. You could probably substitute chicken. |
Thanks, Lynzy! This looks like a method I can work with, lol. Two questions: How much do you give at one feeding? And do you give any type of vitamin supplement during the switchover time, or is it not a long enough period to be concerned? |
I never do anything extra because it really isn't a long time. I usually just give about a 3/4 cup, I don't measure...I just give a good helping! |
It's probably better to do it this way.... whenever I mix new with old kibble they always just pick out the new anyway, lol. |
When I switch I will moisten both types kibble together with boiled water, mix well, cool, serve and gradually withdraw the water each day until it is all dry, new kibble. Works well for mixing up the tastes and gradually switching if the dog's tummy can't handle meat or veggies. |
Be careful with rice they are finding arsenic in it. |
