Yorkie Dandruff I noticed quite a bit of dandruff on my daughter's little yorkie today. She took her to be groomed and now that her hair is short it is quite noticeable and gets on you when you hold her. Maddie is 5 years old, weighs about 4 lbs, usually healthy and has a cotton coat. Any thoughts out there as to where we should start with this problem? |
My boy has dry flakey skin on his tummy. I just noticed it today. I'm hoping it's from the weather. I rubbed a little Jojoba oil on his belly earlier this morning. The hair on his tummy did get a little oily, but after about an hour it was okay. Since it's an essential oil, it absorbs well & doesn't get sticky. I'm hoping I won't have to add anything to his diet. He's so finicky & changing any part of his diet is such a production. I've heard that you can rub coconut oil on your palms & let them lick it off. That's supposed to help the coat. He likes coconut flakes, so I think I'll invest in jar of the oil tomorrow. |
Maddie's issue is all over especially on her hind quarters. I never saw this before. Maybe allergy, or nutritional I'm thinking. |
I don't know if it will help, but coconut or olive oil might help. Winterizing Your Dog's Coat | The Bark |
I bought a jar of coconut oil yesterday. I warmed it in my hands & let it melt and then I let them lick it off. I don't know if it's going to make a difference  But it does smell yummy! Smells like summer :) |
I would try coconut oil and/or a fish oil supplement. Fish oil has made a difference for us and we do the occasional coconut oil for various things. When I discontinue it for a few days, my boys' coats dry out. Make sure to rinse shampoo really, really well. Perhaps try using a different shampoo and diluting a bit, Always follow with conditioner. |
I had a poodle that had very dry skin and it was from the food she was eating. I changed to a venison food and she cleared up. So check the food and make sure you are feeding a high quality food and not some cheap stuff. Also some dogs need a hypo allergenic shampoo. I get Hy-lyte from my vet and use that. Plus a good conditioner. Ask the vet. |
check out my ziwi peak post. I had this issue. Coconut oil/salmon oil is amazing! I need to get more. |
