Interceptor Heartworm Med. Does anyone have any accurate updates about when Interceptor will be coming back on the market?? |
This doesn't specify a date, but it's the latest statement from the manufacturer: Novartis Animal Health US, Inc. |
I don't know that I would ever use them again. Any company that had the initial problems this one did with a drug and still having problems getting back up to speed is a problem in so many ways for me. It just screams warnings to me. |
From what I had heard the problem was not with any of their drugs for animals but with one of their human drugs. But it was produced in the same facility so everything had to be shut down. If there would be another brand with a small pill like Interceptor I would switch. |

The last report that they gave to my vet's office is that they have stopped trying to predict when it will be available. I get the feeling that it ay never come back which would be a huge loss. If it isn't back in a few mnths Ellie may be getting liquid ivermectin. She can't have HG and I don't do tooicals for this. Very sad. BTW, Novartis makes many drugs for people andpets. It would be very difficult to avoid using their products at onetime or anither. |

I'm so ticked about these delays  I stocked up last year and thought for sure I'd have enough to see ZoE through, until it was back on the shelves...and I've only got 3 months left after her last doseage yesterday. |
Novartis apparently was having lots of problems for years and the Interceptor was the last straw. When I saw that they were mixing product despite a number of complaints and had failed to correct the situation even after their FDA warming, it browned me off them. If they can have mixups with wrong tablets in with a certain product, they could actually potentially mix up ingredients in making a product. And having incorrect counts in bottles, even in dangerous narcotics such as morphine, etc., it just seems they haven't decent quality control. I hope they can manage to find out what in the world could cause all of this but it is scary to think what can go wrong at a pharma! |
I've only got 3 months let for my Zhoie to...I do want to switch her to something else, just not sure what is the best to use at this point. I too am worried with this type of delay what may not be being divulged to the public:(. |
Thankfully Tibbe takes his Heartguard fine, though we have to break it into two pieces but changing was nerve-wracking. I hope nothing bad comes out about the company that produces it!!! |
My boys only have a 2 months supply left :( I'm going to have to change too. It should have NOT taken any where near this long to get the product back into production. What have people that did not have a supply changed to? |

.......Chloe is on Heartguard 0-25lbs because of her weight at the time she was given the Heartguard she was 1lb 8ozs now she is 4lbs and has no problem with it. On the other hand my Sheltie can't take Heartguard and who weighs 20 lbs now takes the Interceptor for dogs 26-50lbs she was on the lower dose but because they don't have it in stock the vet put her on the next dose up. My vet said it wouldn't hurt (the Sheltie) . On the package it states for dogs 26-50lbs and for cats 6.1-12lbs....You would think this dose would be to much for a cat at the 6.1-12lbs....just seems kind of stange. |
