Eating Eggs!? Does anybody feed their pups an egg....?! I have heard a lot of people give thier dog a raw egg, shell and all.... or a spoonful of cottage cheese? |

I have read on the forum that cottage cheese is ok. One of Hueys favorite things is his sunday morning scrambled eggs. Of course this is only about a teaspoon full mixed with a tiny piece of biscuit and bacon, but he sure does love it. |

i give them scrambled eggs plain once in awhile. no shells for my babies. |

I feed mine eggs. But not raw. I scramble the egg in a ceramic pan (no oil needed). For some reason, my pups won't eat cottage cheese...but they love ricotta. Sometimes for lunch, I give them a spoonful of ricotta & sprinkle their Solid Gold SeaMeal on top. I used to grind eggshells to a powder & put it in their homecooked food. But then I bought BalanceIt. Plus, I think they get enough calcium in their diet now. They're not puppies anymore, so I don't get too nervous about the extra calcium. But, I also have a Lab. I typically compost my eggshells. But I don't compost as much in the winter as I do in the summer. So, I crush up the eggshells in my hand & mix it around in his food. He's my winter composter ;) |

I give the dogs both cottage cheese and eggs. The cottage cheese just a small teaspoon mixed with their evening kibble if I have no other veggies or meat. They so look forward to their evening surprise! The eggs were a very occassional thing until my DH found it was "ok" then he overdid it  and we had some tummy issues:eek: til I found out what he was up to(every morning!). They are now off eggs-unless I am handling it- a tiny 1/2 tsp once a week. |

I give mine scrambled eggs once or twice a week, and occassionally mix in about a teaspoon and a half of cottage cheese with their dinner, along with veggies. |

I haven't tried cottage cheese yet because Sam is so picky and I want to introduce new foods very slowly. He does love him some scrambled egg, though. I give him a tablespoon mixed with his dry food. Last night I gave him a half teaspoon of coconut vanilla Greek yogurt for an after bath treat. I thought he was going to eat the spoon and all! |

They can have raw eggs...with or without shell and/or cooked eggs. Of course, if you worry at all about the possibility of salmonella, raw eggs might be out. Dogs do handle salmonella differently than us, and have a different tolerance, but it can def be a concern if the dog is immuno compromised in any way. I have a sliced, hard boiled egg on english muffin every morning - I always save 3 little slices for the doggies - so they get a bit of egg every morning. They LOVE those dang eggs, I tell ya. ETA: also, I've given cottage cheese before and they love that too! |

I think if Joel could choose one food it would be scrambled eggs, actually he just had some this morning and when he's done he rubs all over the floor :D |

Eggs I give mine boiled eggs every once in a while. Not very much.. One will eat white, yoke and the other one just yoke. We really don't eat eggs much so that's about all the eggs they get. Cheryl |

I give mine cooked egg white once a week. I remember a while back that one of Lynzy girls got into egg shell and was in emergency care. I wouldn't do shells. |

Mine split a scrambled egg twice a week. I cook it in the microwave, no seasoning just a little water, then a mix it into their kibble. They gobble it up. |

Mine love eggs- Cooked and raw. Buddy is the only one who gets the shells though. |

I would only feed eggs cooked and it would be occasionally. |

I have read on various websites that you should not give your dog raw eggs! So I definitely wouldn't do that. As for egg shells, they usually are very dirty and humans need to wash their hands after handling eggs, so I don't think giving egg shells is a good idea either. Raw eggs and eggs shells are the leading cause of Salmonella, which people can get even from touching raw eggs and not washing their hands afterwards. As for cottage cheese, yesterday at "organic" pet store I was told that its good to give your dog goat milk, and its even better than cow milk for them. Anyone does that? |

Columbo loves scrambled eggs! I usually make mine with cheese in them and he loves that, too. The vet once told me that a plain scrambled egg is a good thing to give them to eat if they have an upset stomach, just like boiled chicken & rice is. I would be afraid to give a raw egg. Isn't there a chance of getting salmonella with a raw egg? Also, I'd be afraid of the sharp edges of a shell perforating the intestines. Even if you ground it up, again, isn't there a chance of salmonella? IDK for sure, but if I wouldn't eat it, I wouldn't feed it to my dog. |

I do not give raw eggs. Mine get a little scrambled egg on Sunday. I make the eggs for the birdies and of course the Yorkies smell it so I give them a little bit. Spud is a little pudgy so he has to watch his weight. JoJo just gobbles it up. Eggs are good for the dogs. Mine get a tiny bite of chicken when I bring a cooked one home. But that is all along with their Blue Buffalo dog food. |
