Heartgard Plus question Does anyone use this? If so, what dosage or how much do you give? I have some from the vet that are chewables for dogs up to 25 lbs. My vet said to give her 1, once a month. She is only 3.6 lbs and I am wondering if this is too big of a dosage for her. I trust my vet but just want to be safe. Any opinions from others that give Heartgard Plus? |
I know what you mean, but I've heard that it's very safe and they can eat a whole package, and not get sick. Unfortunately, that’s the smallest dose and you can't cut it in half, the medication isn't evenly mixed in the pill, you have to give the whole thing. You might talk to your vet about another brand that has smaller pills, but as far as safety, from my understanding these are fine for smaller dogs. I give Heartgard Plus chewable, and my two absolutely love them, they act like I'm giving them steak! |
Oh, good that makes me feel better! I get so worried when I have to give her medication or vaccinations. Even when she got her rabies and other vaccines, I made the vet give her Benedryl before the shots were given! Thank you for easing my mind! |

Thats just what my vet told me. I couldn't understand how a 3lb. could take as much as a 25lb. dog. But, that is exactly what she told me. So, I guess its safe. I trust my vet too. |
That is exactly what I was thinking, too! |
my Emy loves this.....I do slice it up and give it to her in smalll pieces, one at a time, but she loves it...it does however make her stool slightly looser I've noticed, the following day..... |
I use heartguard plus for my two. I also cut it up into smaller pieces for Jada, but that is just because if I give her the whole thing, she likes to carry it around and she tries to find a hiding place :p I have never had any adverse reactions from it. |
Riley gets his heartard plus on the 20th of each month and he too acts like I am giving him a piece of Steak! He goes Nuts for it!! :) |
